Cruise control works... nope it doesn't... yep it does! etc.
My cruise control has started giving problems last week. It simply didn't work. I thought it was the switches then coming back home all was fine again. It's been like this for a week.
I turn on the car, start, it doesn't work. I get where I need to using my right foot like good old times then when coming back home it works again. Or the other way around.
It just is like the rest of the car: aircon not working one day every 10, radio staying on after shutdown once every three travels. (average figures)
I can live with the aircon (BSI going mad?) and radio (dry solder joints somewhere?) but I really don't know what could be causing the cruise control issue. If it was the switch it'd do that all the time?

Bah, I'll try to see if the switches are ok or maybe it's the hot weather or the car that's on it's period...dogslife wrote:Mine has done the same thing from time to time, but strangely, not for the last year or so......

Is the cc somehow related to the BSI? I don't think so right?

On later cars the BSI is involved, I think because the cc stalk is part of the COM2000, so for the info to reach the engine ecu, (which actually does the controlling), it has to pass through the BSI to get there......

Yep but mine is pre-multiplex, so no COM2000 there. I have the thin stalks. Not involved then?dogslife wrote:On later cars the BSI is involved, I think because the cc stalk is part of the COM2000, so for the info to reach the engine ecu, (which actually does the controlling), it has to pass through the BSI to get there......

Sad, I was somehow hoping a BSI reset could magically solve all my problems. But as I recently said on the italian forum, the car is just so powerful, comfortable, enjoyable, economical to run that I can forgive these glitches.dogslife wrote:No, I don't think so, Adriano.

Re: Cruise control works... nope it doesn't... yep it does!
i have the same problem
the cruise control when it does feck about works on alternate journeys, i found the way to make the non working journey working again, i pulled in turned off the car and waited for 2 minuites the time it takes for a click round the fuse box, then off i went again the cruise control worked again. But i have a fault coming up on the pp2000 coherence between the 2 brake signals, it could be one of the pedal switches needs looked at (but im not sure how to get them out to test and clean) and the other day when cleaning the fog lights i noticed a wire cut that goes to the front brakes which may affect the cruise control.

That's what mine was. The cable going to the switch somehow completely disconnected itself resulting in a permanent non-cruise control mode. It's not difficult to get to it - you need to undo two massive torx 50 bolts holding the steering column and then gently prise prise it out. You will see two switches on the brake pedal - one for brake (left) and one for cruise (right). Also, they have a tendency to move too far out, so push them back in and pull the brake pedal towards you to "seat" them.FarmerPug wrote:it could be one of the pedal switches needs looked at (but im not sure how to get them out to test and clean).

thanks ill give it a go now i actually have a t50 to remove them bolts.
Do you still have the issue of the rattle in the steering rack? Any risk of this occuring if i undo them bolts?

Re: Cruise control works... nope it doesn't... yep it does!
I've since found that it was the steering wheel airbag that's rattling - nothing in the steering column. I drove to work and back the other day without the airbag and it was as silent as a mouse. I tried some velcro type padding on the horn springs but it's still rattling occasionally when pulling away. Annoying.... Not quite sure how to resolve that.FarmerPug wrote:Do you still have the issue of the rattle in the steering rack? Any risk of this occuring if i undo them bolts?

Re: Cruise control works... nope it doesn't... yep it does!
There's a guide in the coupé forums about fixing the switches.
But if it was that they would just prevent the cc from working all the time, not once every week, right?
