Seeing as the Experts are very closely related to the Peugeot 806, check out the figures on http://www.wisebuyers.co.uk for one of those. Though if all you want a van for is to transport dogs, an Expert is probably oversized & will use more fuel than smaller more car-derived vans like the Berlingos, Escorts & Astras.

my cousin had one for a year (might have been a partner), but i recall 3 people sitting in the back and a berenese dog and the sheep dog no problem, and a boat on the trailer.

Escroat vans ? havent they all been scrapped yet
had an astra van, very reliable 1.7 derv engine but it was 2 small can get 2 dogs in no probs but no chance of getting 2 big cages in one,
ithink the police just about got one big alsation in one,
there not much good for what ineed,

ive seen a Expert and ive also spotted a company over in Nottingham selling ex police vehicles theyve got a volvo estate for sale still complete with the cages in the back i might take a look at it, if its no good iwill go and buy the Expert,

Never had a volvo so idont know if im doing the right thing -contemplating buying one

We've had a few Partner vans at work with the xud engine. They have been universally very good, cheap reliable vans, that seem happy driven flat out or pottering. And as they are so light, they go quite well to.
I would class them as good basic transport. Nice and simple to maintain to. Having one to borrow every so often was very good, amazing what will go in the back.

There are a fair few Volvo fans on the board who can point you right.

Berlingo had the XUD, would be a great basic transport especially the people-carrier versions.

Useful for the other half's runs to Ikea!!!

Volvo 850/early S60/Early V70?
They all have creamy 5 cylinder engines, don't know much about the diesel but still sounds ace

Old 850s/ early 70s and 60s didn't have a DPF :p

Only the later D5 had a DPF.

The volvo wasnt for me, it was an Absolute peice of shite, deffo not worth £2k
i wasted £20s worth of petrol going looking at it,

so im going to focus on finding the Right van,
seen a few but builders have had them cement /plaster etc all over, not good for carrying dogs in,,
especialy when the dogs are worth more than the van,
it wouid mean a days work stripping it out and panneling it out if igot the builders van,

Was quite a few ex dog vans as well, so I think i'd be looking in that direction as they probably still have the cages in the back and the vent thing on the roof

ive bought an Expert van.
Ended up paying 4 and half grand for it but hopefully it will last a few years,
its an ex plod van, low mileage 42k , Engine is mint, no a speck of dust inside it totaly spotless,

iwas looking at cheap vans £2k plus but they where sheds old builders vans etc, so ithought getting an ex plod van was the best option, they didnt come as cheap as ithought they wouid tho

Best thing about ex plod cars is that they get maintained on a no expense spared basis!
They may get thrashed but they get maintained in such way for it.
My Auntie and Uncle had an Ex plod Ford Escort 1.8D and they had it 5 years, did over 100k in it and towed a caravan nearly every weekend with it. Not once did it go wrong!
