more likely than not just clumsy oil filling. Happened to mine - the three front wells on my v6 were swimming when I got the car. Cleaned 'em out and they've stayed clean thank god :)
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Tomorrow I'll replace my injectors and so I'll need to properly clean the whole area - we'll see if it stays so.

On your HDis guys what's the oil consumption? Would half a matallic rod indicator be too much for around 5-6000 miles?

not too much, 6000 miles is still a fair bit, my dad would tell me to change the oil at that point, and my engine is the 2.0 yours is the 2.2 there may be differences like the oil service length.

We'll see what the Peugeot tech says when I do the first and only Peugeot check this car will ever have under my property, later this summer.

In five years, I have only had to top up the oil a couple of times, so i'd say generally, the car doesn't use oil
