which gearbox?

Post by matoakwell »

Hi everyone,

I've had my 2003 hdi 90 saloon for nearly 2 years now and have spent a lot getting things done, cam belt, brakes etc.

The main problem I've got is with the gearbox. 3rd is sometimes difficult to get and crunchy and 5th down to 4th sometimes also crunches. I'm looking into replacing the gearbox and clutch and also get all the engine mounts at the same time.

I know this will be expensive but with what i've already spent and the fact I plan to keep the car for a long time, I think it will be money well spent.

Now, would it be cheaper if I source my own box (and clutch come to think of it) and if so is there a particular one I need to get to fit my car and where would be best to look? I've seen a few on ebay from salvage places etc.

Thanks in advance

Mat

Looks like it's got to be a BE4R from an HDi90 (any age). 110s are ML5s.

A few people have had good results from just a gearbox oil change - worth a try?
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Thank you both for your replies, i'll go and see how much the garage will charge for the oil change.

As for the mounts, is there anywhere you can get them cheap? I'd rather get them myself but as I have no clue when it comes to engines, I don't know what to buy

I've looked at mounts on e-bay and sent a seller a question asking if they did all 4 for my car (sent them the reg).

They sent me this 220580887851 (sorry can't get it as a link) and say they will fit my car.

Can anyone verify this before I purchase please?

Thanks
