Advice on Blower!

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Advice on Blower!

My old 406 was a cable tie pulling a connector round properly and worked!

I think that's a bit misleading, Steve.

We know it's not that scientific......

Sounds a little bit like the problem puggy changed his ignition switch for IIRC - try to find out if your getting a feed to the fan / fan controller.
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

what colour are the wires for the feed?

Hard to say - Peugeot tend to go for numbers rather than colours. Yours is a 'Y'' reg, isn't it? If so Haynes diagrams might help - I'll take a squint tonight.

puggy's worked intermittently when he wiggled the ignition key, (I think).

I know, it lacks a multiplex/full multiplex option.

I did have a search to see what car Pilch has but it looked like he was after another one a while back and I didn't know if he'd bought it or not. Y reg would make it a... 2001, so a D9 but it could either be a mux or full mux (com2000?)

I have a feeling it's the wiring on early semi-mux D9s and the control unit/transistors on full mux D9s. I think the ignition switch is more for D8s (although Puggy seems to have disproved this one  )

Its a Y Reg - 2001 D9 Estate.

Had the blower unplugged doesnt seem to be a live into it, I am guessing it is the 2 wires that have the live on?

Also tested a thick green/yellow and grey wire nothing again.

Not the best at electrics but like to try and turn my hand to it!

Hi pilch,

have a Read of this 1st before we go into the subject of by-passing the Heater blower,

linky, viewtopic.php?f=3&t=14191&p=132215&hili ... er#p132215

Check the Module,

By-passing it works but it can bring up a Battery charge fault on the Mfd from time to time,
so By-passing it shouid be done as a last Resort,
it dosent drain the Battery doing it but it must play Havoc with the Bsi for it to throw the warning message up on the Mfd,

Righty - Just had a more thorough look at this....

No live on the grey wire that comes from the fuse box to a splitter which then turns into red and black.

No live at the fuse number 40.

So would i be right in thinking it could be a problem with the ignition switch?

Have a good look at ignition switch , with engine running carefully turn the key
towards the on position then towards the off without turning the engine off to
see if you can hear the fan cut in . If this fails , remove the shroud from around the
the steering column , this exposes the wires exiting the rear of the ignition switch,
try wriggling these wires to see if fan cuts in . Mine did and i tie wrapped it into
that position till i could get a new one .
.. ooh are those drugs for me Matron

Dont think i have any live going to the blower... but i will try that mate and wiggle it!

In terms of potentially bypassing it, I have some 27amp wire where could i hook that up to? would i need a un protected 12v straight off the battery then drop it into the fuse box?

You need to find a ign live feed to Bypass it,
also, you have to splice into one of the wires in the fan blower,

The fan blower uses alot of volts so thick cable is needed , iused the Negative wire from a peice of cooker wire to by pass mine,
