Strangeness

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

That is a suspiciously large gap; thanks for the confirmation.

Hang on,that sounds familiar. Ah:

Lozz recommends Loctite Superflex Sealant Black Waterproof Windscreen

RayneR disagrees about that particular gap and says it's the sunroof, but I don't have a sunroof.

So I've ordered some of that sealant.

OK, well I got my sealant, but on further inspection it's unclear what to do with it!

On one hand, the red hole seems to be a red herring -- the rubber seal on the left has nothing to do with holding the windscreen in.

Or is the idea to fill up the red hole so that no water can get down the side of the windscreen?

Could the green hole be a candidate? That would need the door bending. But the passenger side is the same, and I don't see how water could get from the green hole to inside the sill. Outside the sill yes -- and there is water there -- but not inside.

Its the hole, marked with the Red circle you need to fill so the corner of the screen and the metal is not showing,
it will be holding water and running down the side of the screen ibet ,
(use Methalated spirits or white spirits -to clean up any excess silicone afterwards, :arrowu:

ive that gap aswell, i think you should get some sort of sealant into it, do you have any squeak from around the a pillar sometimes the wee clips that hold down the seal can fail and make that gap bigger.

No, the seal seems to be quite firmly held in place -- it looks like blobs on the underside of the seal that fit into holes on the A-pillar.

sorry dont know what that means, im a bit dumb with posh words,

The Reason why imentioned you shouid seal that gap is because, ihad a french motor which was killed by Water ingress,
caused by silly seal on the screen,

my 03 laguna went to the scrapyard £1500 turned into a £1400 loss,

the Bsi got fried,

for sake of a couple of quid on sealant its worth doing trust me !

tigerseal definatley is the best stuff to get for the job not only because of its great sealing effect but also it matches the black colour of the stuff around it.

"Ambiguous" means a statement, explanation, or diagram that can have many different meanings - a good alternative word might be "vague" or "unclear".

"Unambiguous" means a statement that is clear and concise in its meaning; you're not left in any doubt about what was meant.

From my perspective, you're down South :cheesy:

I like words. I prefer words to football though, and always have done, so in my school I wasn't particularly popular  My Dad was a lecturer at the local college, and always has been something of an intellectual, and I guess I inherited that trait from him.

All the same, I still like short words too, like "f*ck", "piss", and "bugger", especially when immediately followed by the even-shorter word "off" - effective in a plethora of situations :cheesy:

I like how I use the long word but it's Highlander that gets called posh :cheesy:

Anyway, I hope I've fixed the leak.

First I pulled the rubber back quite hard (so to speak).
I wish I hadn't because it's got a metal back and I bent it.

Image

So I had a look on the other side, and found this gap.
I think this is a red herring because how does water get from here to inside the sill? Outside, yes, but not inside.
Image

It turns out this bit of rubber is attached in a similar way to the pesky door sill rubber that is always flapping about: it is "folded over itself" and secured from the inside which you get at from underneath. (That ought to make sense if you're familiar with the sill trim.)

Unlike the sill trim it's secured with torx head screws.
Unfortunately, they screw into plastic clips inserted into the A-pillar -- very similar to the sill trim.
The plastic clips have rubber seals round them -- or not as the case may be. Without the rubber seal they are loose in the A-pillar.

Image

So I took the top three screws out, squirted my sealant round the plastic clips, and screwed them back in.
You can't tighten them much -- it feels like the screw is stripping the thread from the plastic clip.

So, lets see...
