Any truth or just a myth??????

Just got my first peugeot and its also my first car for over 8 years so im not upto speed on new technology A chap at work has an R plate 2.0 diesel 406 and had the immobiliser removed after it started playing up now he claims that MPG has increased and the acceleration and general feel of the engine has improved has anyone else experienced this and if so is it a good idea to get the immobliser removed from my 2001 2.0 HDi.

There is no immediate connection between the immobiliser and the cars fuel economy, to do that the immobiliser would have to interupt the fueling controlled by the ECU.

As I recall, the immobiliser on a Diesel just controlls the fuel cut off solenoid, to stop it staring upon unauthorised entry.

The immobiliser on the earlier R plater is the Key Pad doo dad and many owners have frigged about with these, I think you can stop it calling for a code number some how by pressig a combination of buttons, that's all your friend has probably done.

The newer HDi's immobiliser is a transponder key type and as far as I know suffers no problems whatsover (unlike Audi's of the same era)

Maybe your mate is a bit jealous of your excellent choice of car (well done from me).

PS. you don't have to be pipe & slippers to have a 406 HDi, I am the oldest member on here with one at 35 !!!!!

If you think about it, how often do you see an old codger driving a 406? they're normaly cool no nonsense people like us.

Have to say im very pleased with the 406 but then ive just spent 5 years driving around in either an old beat up LDV400 VAN (then thrashing round race tracks on a bike). Or the other halfs 1969 Morris Minor. Havnt owned a car myself for 8 years till 3 weeks ago and the 406 sure has impressed me.

Could be the throttle position sensor, there not too bad either, about £50.00, my car had one last year but the previous guy paid for it

I sometimes get the impression that my car goes better sometimes than others, but put it down to me, fuel, or atmospheric conditions, I wonder.....

More likely the garage that disconnected the immobiliser will have also disconnected the battery to do the job, thus resetting the ECU. Once the new base settings have been 'learned' it may well feel a lot sweeter.

I Got my 406 HDi second hand is it worth taking the battery off for an 1hour or to so the ECU resets?

as the car had a dogy EGR and broken vacum pump, so the car may have learn't to be slow
