I had the dreaded "Engine anti-pollution device defective" message on the MFD not that after buying the Coupe; turned out to be a perished gasket between the intake manifold and the throttle body, and it was disrupting normal air flow into the engine (even causing the engine to stall unexpectedly, and to idle at abnormally high revs).

I found that if I made a certain number of journeys (I think it was either 3 or 5) during which the car had not detected the error condition again, the alert would clear and normal service would resume.

Worth getting the fault codes read though.

I very much appreciated the offer, but sounds to me that you own a garage, and would be opening up just for me, and I didn't feel comfortable with that as just didn't sound fair
Plus the weather put me off going to the place near Ollerton I was supposed to be going today anyway, but thank you very much anyway mate

The lift pump runs constantly with the engine running so I'd look at this one first, they tend to crap out at about 130k miles but normally sound grumbly when you first turn the key (when it's worn) a new pump sounds really sweet n comparison.

Sounds like it was just delivering enough fuel for pootling along but when you floored it the fuel rail became low on fuel and flagged a fault.
