Cruise control works... nope it doesn't... yep it does! etc.

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Might be easier to remove the steering column. Only held by 2 bolts - no need to remove the steering wheel etc.

Nah it's easy, just need some contorsionistic virtuosisms.

i took the steering wheel surround off today, and removed the two lower stalks the one for the crusie control and the radio one, took them apart and thorougly cleaned them and the contacts inside them (fixed the spongy track down button while at it) then when putting the stalks back in i wedged paper in the rails that they slide in on, so they are in as solid as an old mercedes, no rattling around anymore, so i took the car for a drive and the cruise control worked.

But then i attempted to get to that switch following that guide in the link, i had saved it on my phone and followed it there and then, but its very fiddly to get it out, i got it out and tested it with my multimeter seems ok, so i opened it and cleaned the internal contacts, and put it back together tested it again and it still was going, but then i went to put it back in which is very very tricky and annoying (how do you loosen the steering colum its got 2 torx bolts but my new torx bits wont fit because they have a bit in the middle, is there some other parts that can be undone),
anyhow i followed the guide on putting back the switch but i just dont seem to get the thing to activate now. Ill try the pp2000 when my dad brings my laptop back.

There's nothing else holding the column - just those two torx screws.

torx with a thing in the middle are anti-tefth (?) torxs. You can find the suitable screwdrivers in any workshop.

I don't see why? PP2000 faults are a bit messy.
