Got PP2000 - Not got clue how to use it!!!!

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Got PP2000 - Not got clue how to use it!!!!

Post by L12PUG »

Hi

Well, I have done a really dumb thing - I bought PP2000 so that I could activate the trip function on my '99 406 D9. I duly got it loaded onto my laptop and then hit a small snag - I haven't a bloody clue how to use PP2000 or how to activate the trip function on the car

Would anyone out there be able to explain to me how I do this? I'd be very grateful for yet more help

Thanks - good video and very useful.

My problem is that I cant get PP2000 to read the ECU.

it says either "ECU did not reply" or "PP2000 Unknown reference. ECU being referenced"

Should I use the socket under the bonnet and go straight to the ECU?

Any tips thankfully received........

well done, you got yourself a steps roles.

The clones are sh*t for the 406 and 307 because most of them can't read the engine ECU. I myself tried 2 different clones and none were able to enter the engine ECU, says exactly what yours says...

And to prove that is the clone itself, a generic engine reader, reads the ecu just fine ..

But anyway if you want to activate the Trip computer you don't need to go into the engine ECU, just the BSI.

Well folks, it is time for confessions......

It turns out that my PP2000 works fine and does all it needs to do once you choose the correct version of the 406....

My trip now works fine, I was selecting 406 when I should have been selecting the 406R.......sorry for all the messing about....

I guess if you look my name up in a dictionary today you will find a picture of a big cock!

Thank you for helping - turned out that there was an error between chair and keyboard

Feel free to have a laugh at my expense but remember this......

Thanks for going easy on me - I felt such a tit when I realised what I was doing

Once I chose the right car, it worked a treat, I put in the 4 digit number (manufacturer date thing) and then tried the "Test by ECU" option and hey presto all of the options opened up and I was able to go into the BSI and activate the trip computer, which is now working :D

I got in to all of the ECU's but didn't mess around in there!

I did a global test and it then gave me the options of engine, one of which was RFR - the one I have - so I oicked it and off it went with its test.

It gave 2 intermittent engine faults, speed sensor and I forget the other - will check again tomorrow - it also gave me a Radio fault - something to do with aerial connection, I think.....

For now, I'm well pleased I got it working!!

Now I'd quite like to introduce cruise control.....if someone can tell me what I need to get......?

It has been done before, but it's likely to be a bit more involved, see: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=5207&p=74276&hilit=wasp#p74270

Also be aware there are two completely different electrical/electronic setups for these cars, early, 'semi-multiplexed' and later, 'fully-mux' designs, they changed over in late 2001, about when 51-plates came out. Yours will only work with bits from earlier cars.

1st thing to do is see if you've got the option via PP2000. (In later models it's in BSI Configuration, but on yours, I think you'll find it in the engine ecu section).

If it's there, great, but you still need to find out if you have the wiring for the on/off switch, clutch switch, 2nd brake pedal switch & c/c stalk.

Assuming you have, (not everyone does), search the scrappy / eBay.

mmm...thanks for the info dogslife but given I couldn't even get the right car for PP2000 I think I will leave the cruise and look for leather seats instead 8)

If you look at my topic about cruise, there you will find useful stuff and images taken by my own, Cruise was 90 % on my car pre installed it was missing the stalk and button, now all i need is to activate it with PP2000, but given the circumstances i couldn't use PP2000 since the too lexias interface i used can't enter the engine ecu, but, i found a garage who works with bosh services and there they can activate it, but well my wallet isn't very good at the moment and that must wait.

RayneR that's a great link and very informative, thanks for that!

I was looking at my dash the other day and I have the same blank next to the OBD socket - not only that, when I go into the BSI in PP2000, it allows me to activate Cruise control (though it is in French!).

What would I need to get in order to try this....the stalk for the steering column and the switch that goes in the blank space on the dash??

This could be worth following up, though my car is a 1999 D9..........??

Do you have the plug in that blank socket ? ( in order to see this you got 2 options: A - remove all the socket, B - search with your fingers and next to the EOBD socket you will need to have another pair of some wires, but i recomend the option A to be sure. )

Another thing the " function survitess " as you mention that is on BSI, as nothing to do with the cruise, that function must be also programmed in the Multi Function Display to be fully adjustable, that function is just an alarm sound coming from your dashboard when you go more then 120 km/h or what you have adjusted in the display.

Do google translate "function survitess " it gives you : overspeed function

re cruise control..i did this to my 1999 d9 a few years back..seach my posts may help also search later posts on this subject.
my d9 has a bosch ecu not siemens one..dont know if it works with siemen engine ecu.. mine was also 110 hp not 90 hp..dunno if anyones done a 90 yet??
my original engine ecu didnt have cruise but i had to get a secondhand bsi, ecu, key set from ebay because my bsi fooked which came from a Y reg car 2001
the new ecu ,bsi had cruise in it but needed switching on with pp2000 cos the donnor car was an LX it was marked as 'absent' in pp2000 just had to set it as 'present' and save.
thing to check is that your car is wired for the on/off switch - pull the blank off next to the place where you plug pp2000 into.check and see if you have the wiring plug there (unused ofc)
also you will need a cruise stalk...both button and stalk can be got from any d9 v6 petrol, or hdi excutive or hdi gtx and some coupe's but must be pre multiplexed if your is 99
Cruise is great...save fuel also,my average mpg was 44 pre cruise, now its 52+... and its a pleasure to use ..
Good luck
Dave

Exactly what i did when i first had mine!! lol needed to select 406R for d9 assuming you have a d9 ..
the other post saying clones dont reaD 406,307 engine ecu's..all i can say is ive used mine on a few 307 406 ect new and old without fault..
guess i have a good clone..

Thanks for that - when I looked, the spare plug is there and has wiring to it, though i'm not sure what the stalk will connect to - I can see a white plug that isn't used when I remove the trim under the dash, so perhaps that's the plug for the cruise stalk.

When I look in PP2000 it says that cruise is absent so I assume that it would be the same as yours, I may have a look for the switch & stalk and see if I can get it working.....

My PP2000 now works fine and I have used it with ease on my D9 406, my brothers 306, my mates 2007 307 and my Grandads Xantia (Lexia) so after my initial bone head ramblings at choosing the D8 not the D9 (406R) I have great use out of it and well worth the money also!

If only I could get something similar for my Jag......
