Poly bush suspension group buy
I am thinking of arranging a group buy. I will be trying to get others interested on the coupe forum aswell. I am hoping to get at at least 10 people interested.
I would estimate the total cost for front and rear suspension bushes to be between £120-£140 as a guide but will need 10 people interested so I can neogotiate a discount.
Thanks
Alex

Re: Poly bush suspension group buy
Fitted polybushes to my lower arms on my Focus. With the state of our roads they were nackered in 6 months.
Ended up buying Delphi lower arms and got my money back for the polybushes. Waste of time in our country. You will see a marked improvement just replacing stuff like lower arms, track rod ends, shocks, ARB bushes + drop links etc.

What make bushes did you fit? I have never had any issues fitting them on any of my cars.

A poly bush should be more durable than a rubber one?
Typical, I've just finished rebushing the whole bloody car
What bushes would you be getting specifically?

Re: Poly bush suspension group buy
All the front and rear suspension bushes that replace the rubber bushes with polyurthane ones, including the anti roll bar link bushes. Good quality bushes do not wear in anything like the time rubber bushes do. Rubber bushes perish due to oil saturation - poly ones dont. A well constructed poly bush should last the whole time you own the car. You would have to be driving on some serious rubbish roads daily and be cornering at stupid speeds to knacker a well made poly bush.
I have had them fitted to a Saab 9000 carlsson, a Sierra XR4x4 and an 850 T5. My mate has used them on his V6 Cosworth XR4x4 and his 850 T5. Another mate of mine who had a 2.5 V6 Astra poly bushed everywhere where there was a rubber bush - no issues. He now has a 300ZX TT tuned to around 500bhp, he runs poly bushes = no problem.

Re: Poly bush suspension group buy
ok i look at it this way
if you buy new from pug they seam to last for about 10 years which is longer than most people keep there cars and you know they going to fit.
or you buy some cheapo ones hoping they will a-get you through the mot and last a while or b-last long enough to sell the car
poly bushes
first question
why?
to firm up the suspension? dont think many people use them as track cars and i like the ride and comfort of mine but we not all the same
second question
how long do they last?
some can be destroyed in a few thousand miles some last forever
third question
noise
if you make everything stiffer then you are more likley to transmit more noise into the car which is not what the 406 is about[for me]
i have fitted some to a track car i used to have along with tuned suspension[coilovers, adjustable top mounts etc] and they worked well but i didnt cover thosands of miles, have the kids and the shopping in or trying to listen to the stereo.

Re: Poly bush suspension group buy
ive had poly bushes before never had a problem with them,
ithink for poly bushes to fail or wear out early theyve either been badly fitted or theyre cheap imotations,
idont think people wouid be buying poly-bushes if they where crap,
Bailes your car seems to of been going through alot of suspension /steering parts
your either unlucky or you hit alot of curbs

Re: Poly bush suspension group buy
I know they are perhaps not perfect if you have kids, shopping etc. But if you drive enthusiastically, want to do a trackday or two and are all about modifying your car in the way I am then poly bushes are the way to go.
I am also looking into getting the coolant/intercooler & turbo hoses done in silicone but again people might not be interested due to having no issues with thier standard items or not seeing the benefit - wont own thier car long enough etc.
I have only just bought my car, dont mind spending money on it and enjoy tuning it so for me I dont really care. I would happily spend a few thousand making my car go, handle and stop alot better than spending £600+ on a silly looking body kit or those horrible light clusters you normally see being toted on 1liter somethings in supermarket carparks, but hey, thats just me.

Re: Poly bush suspension group buy

ithink, there might be a few others thatd be interested too,
the silicone hoses are a Good investment imho ,
as of the poly bushes, the lower engine mount is something id go for all tho id pass on the others,
just being honest,
on a positive note, ithink it was a good idea of yours trying to organise a group buy,

i also agree that it was a good idea to organise a group buy and congratulate you and i might also be intrested in the hoses, but theres a lot of diffrent engines in the 406 to cater for

Re: Poly bush suspension group buy
The turbo/coolant and intercooler silicone hoses I can get the ball rolling with those easily. A local company manufactures them and I have approached them before and they are more than happy to do the research but we would need the numbers to make the research viable and to bring down the cost for us. I am willing to use my car as the tester (bearing in mind mine is the 2.2 HDi) I am not sure if the 2.0 HDi or other petrol models have parts compatibility with mine. With a bit of help from other members I could get hold of other parts and have them made up.
At the moment its just a feeler really to see how much interest there is as it will be a waste of time on my part and indeed money as I doubt I could afford a "one off" solution for the above but if its a group buy it will bring the cost down for everyone.
The 406 does lack in aftermarket parts. I am hoping to add a poly bush suspension solution and replacement silicone hoses to the parts availability and raise the profile of a much underated car in Peugeot's history.
There are stacks of aftermarket bits for 106/205/206/306/309/307/207 etc but when it comes to the 406 family there seems to be bugger all...bizzare.

Update on the coolant hoses. The cost will be £59,£69,£79 - will have an exact price next week when I take a sample to them. They can be had in many colours and have a 3 year warranty.
