d8 auto wipers.

hi all,
having had my interior mirror knocked off by my friends daughter :cry: i thought i would fix the auto wipers as they only work on intermittent mode. i have looked at this on the very excellent knowledge base which shows this repair in great detail.
my question is, i have the sensor thing shown in the pictures which has 2 or 3? small wires going to the unit but i do not have the plug with the white and black wires shown. maybe i dont have auto wipers then?
one other little thing, in the middle of the dashboard near the windscreen is a small plastic dome. does anyone know what this does?
my car is a 2088 t/d glx estate and is a 1998.
any ideas welcomed, cheers, doug.

im quite certain that no d8 has auto wipers. could be wrong but pretty sure. (will feel like a right clown if im wrong)

My GLX has auto wipers. The dome in the centre of the dash near the windscreen is the internal temperature sensor. Sorry I can't be of much help with anything else :x

yeah i wondered about that. it seems very mean to install all this stuff on a car when it will never work. :frown: . perhaps i ll just try to fix the mirror back on, might be a drama cos the metal bracket that glues to the windscreen has come off as well. might just go for a pint then. :wink:

So you've tried this? Does it glow orange when it's in "AUTO" mode?

hi todd,
excellent!! i might investigate further as per knowledge base article then. good to know what that little dome does, its been puzzling about it for ages. i even cleaned it once. :) gary, im not saying anything. :D

The auto wipers on my D8 were much better than the ones on my D9
