Auto Wipers

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Auto Wipers

Post by leestudd30 »

I've noticed my 97 406 has them fitted which surprised me! It mentions a sun sensor which I can see on top of the dash, are they actually any good?

Still working perfectly on my 98 406. Fantastic feature, driving cars without it annoys me now :)

They're very good! But you must remember to turn them off when you switch the car off, otherwise they won't work the next time until you flick them off and back on.

They're ok, but I would have liked the option of a normal intermittent wipe when not in auto mode.

Agreed

Seconded.

The ones on my D8 used to get confused by bridges, the ones on my d9 don't seem to have that issue, in fact if anything they seem to be a bit insensitive sometimes.

hey, i like the auto function too and mine sometimes isn't very accurate, but for that intermittent issue you can just push down manually ...

on com2000 cars pulling the washers back quickly makes the wipers do a wipe before the washers work must be a delay caused by the multiplex wiring but its handy one pull back gives the window a wipe and just hold it in longer for a wash

Does the rain sensor only pick up rain hitting the windscreen and not just rain on actually on the screen? Used mine earlier and they worked and when the rain stopped they stopped, but the windscreen was still covered in water.

Nope, it just depends on whether the water is in the right place on the screen. I've come out of work at night & where the screen is a bit misty it'll sometimes send the wipers on a mad one when they're in auto mode.
