New Member with 2000 GTX

Post by JaydoubledeckerDay »

Hi folks
Another newbie (hides and ducks)...
I bought a 2l manual GTX Estate a little while back and it has no manual. A few of the electrical components don't work..or more like I have no idea how they work as I have no owners manual
Also the MPH needle has an intermittent or....latharjic attitude or maybe it's like Tevez!!!only works when it want's to!

Aswell as owning the 2000 406 I have a few other rusting hulks a 1955 Oval window beetle, 74 Campervan and a 1966 'yes thats the year, the last time we won the world cup' Routemaster Bus..
Must say with the 8.1 liter Iveco crank shaft from my bus was sat a foot in from the tailgate enroute to a machine shop for a diagnosis...scrap is all it's good for bye bye crank shaft hello beer tokens..anyway I digressed..did I mention beer? again..
I'm impressed how the car handled the rear end extra weight, if that had been my now dead 92 Mondeo estate, it would of been all over the road round the bends....the 406 impresses me how it handles the country lanes I live on. I'm just waiting for the first frosts to arrive as I suspect the rear window heater doesn't work as the light doesn't come up on the switch on the center console though the front windscreen switch light comes on when that switch is depressed??!! has the GTX got a heated front windscreen as I can't see the elements in the glass.

Over and out..

Nice little intro there! welcome!

I guess your not afraid of wielding the occasional spanner in anger then 8)

The 406 doesn't have a heated screen but a 'demist' function where all of the airflow is directed to the screen and the a/c engaged for absorbing moisture, very effective (if the a/c is working!).

Rear screens that don't work can be simply a scratched element from careless loading of the boot etc :roll: other that that maybe a fuse or relay, some nice chaps on here have wiring diagrams and everyfink.......

The mondy came out first as a K reg? which was released August 1992. My old neighbour bought a brand-new 'N' reg estate and proceeded to immediately strip the car down - carpet, seats, wheels/arch liners the lot - there's not a blemish on that thing even today :shock:

There was method in his madness, he said that the factory rust-proofing "wasn't good enough" when he took delivery.

Carry on.........

Or it could just be the bulb... You must have a multimeter in your tool kit, along side the massive spanners :shock:

The speedo problem is probably a dry joint on the circuit board - standard procedure is to remove the clocks and look for a dry joint, then when you've given up looking for it go round the whole lot with a soldering iron :roll:

We do have access to wiring diagrams, they're not brilliant but I'm sure we can take a stab at it if needed.

Yes please to some pics, especially the Beetle :cheesy:

K = 93,
they wasnt out in 92.

The Mondeo was launched on 8 January 1993, and sales began on 22 March 1993. Available as a four-door saloon, a five-door hatchback, and a five-door estate, all models for the European market were produced at Ford's plant in the Belgian city of Genk. The Sierra had been built there since its launch in 1982, although until 1989, right hand drive Sierras had also been built in UK at the Dagenham plant.[4]

K = 1971.

No, hold on, this is prefix so K = August 1992 to July 1993.

Does it matter?

A bus in the garden? Top man, although better if it was a Bristol flf. Always fancied a nice pair of Bristols. Pictures of the fleet please.
