Turn 45 degrees anti clockwise, pull really hard. Be patient, it'll take a lot of yanking, but it comes off eventually.

so if you pull your knob really hard whilst continually trying to twist it off, after much sweating, swearing and hopefully the odd dash of spilt blood, maybe if you are lucky you will find relief with your knob coming off in your hand, thus allowing a sigh of relief to pass your lips, some say a post knob removal cuddle is in order, personally i just roll over and fall asleep.

when i tried to take my knob off i followed the instructions but it didnt go right the top end with the numbers broke off and flew into the back of the car. and there is no new knob yet to replace this one.

Is the gear knob removal process the same for those of us who have the lift-select reverse? (i.e. the collar you have to lift up in order to be able to engage reverse gear?)

The Coupe has the lift-select reverse (complex knob), whereas my old saloon was a simple knob.

ive lift select reverse thats why my knob broke off i think it must be done differently

Someone's broken my D9's knob just giving it a yank so I'm not sure, Service Box doesn't even say.

Not prepared to Google 'complex knob' while at work, but do let me know how it goes.

Oh, BTW as Odin's steed is now sporting two of my injectors, we can safely assume his is of the 'complex' variety.
