According to Service Box they always used Mahle but I was never sure. So...

This is a Mahle http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/hdi-filter-ho ... 4aafcffab2

This is a Bosch http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PEUGEOT-406-9 ... 3a612e0b72

Which do you have?

I had a 99(T) Xsara HDi 90 with the Bosch filter, (distinctly remember putting a socket on the plastic hexagon, then chickening out when it wouldn't budge).

Doesn't gaurantee they're all the same though.
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Now there it is, exactly what I was worried about - I can tell you what cars are likely to have the Bosch filter housing but I can't use Service Box to say anything for definite - I'm afraid you will have to look. I'm sure you've scanned down the ebay ad for the Bosch and seen Xsara and Xsara Picasso on the list already.

Let's see now, 190169 on anything DW10TD & DW10ATED (although I suspect early 'cos mine's a Mahle)
206
306 new
307
406 D8 & D9 Manual up to 9001 (2nd July 2001) Automatic up to 9337 (3 Jun 2002)
806
Partner/Berlingo
Expert
Xantia II
Xsara, Xsara II & Picasso
Synergie/Dispatch
C5

406 DW12TED4 until 9001
607 DW12TED4 until RPO 08938 (30 Apr 2001)
806, Expert, Synergie/Dispatch DW10ATED4 until RPO 08910 (2 Apr 2001)
C5 DW12ATED4 until RPO 8945 (7 May 2001)

I guess all we can surmise from this lot is you are moire likely to get one off a car built before the middle of 2001 than after. But you should still check before forking out any cash.

The Bosch one can be had for £54 from GSF and they gave me a 10% card for use on future purchases
1999 D8.5 HDi GLX - Sold :(

2007 Mondingo Zetec - I seek forgiveness :( Bring back my 406
