Re: How to I reset my ECU
Personally I just unplug it for a few seconds. The recommended way is to disconnect the battery for half hour or so.tempragolf wrote:How do I go mabout resetting my ECU?
depends on your car:If the battery is disconnected, will my radio need a code before it will work again?
D8 - yes
D9 - no
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Re: How to I reset my ECU
Tried disconnecting battery for an hour but it didn't reset! When I owned a Fiat tempra, which also had a Magnetti Marelli ECU, I had to "start engine (don't touch throttle)then wait until cooling fan comes on and off twice then switch off, disconnect battery and wait 20 mins. Then reconnect battery, start engine (don't touch throttle)and wait for cooling fan to come on and off twice then switch off. Upon restarting it would then be reset. Does this work for my Pug I wonder...

Re: How to I reset my ECU
Some cars will take longer than 20mins to drain,
ive found in the past by putting the headlights on before taking the - lead off the battey helps to drain power,
dont know if thats safe practice on the D9 406s tho they seem abit sensitive B.s.i wise,
!!Never just put the lead on and start a 406 straight away, its not worth the risk ,

So if you were to connect an aftermarket amp which connects to a terminal on the battery, would you still have to follow the procedure on that link? What happens if you don't?

iwouid follow the Bsi procedure just as a precaution, theres no clear fact that Adding stuff will cause damage but it happens,
for something that takes 5 mins to do couid save your car inthe long run

If you have it connected to diagnostic computer, pull the plug out first........leestudd30 wrote:Thanks, will definately do that! It says remove DIAG if connected, what is it referring to?

Re: How to I reset my ECU
On a D9, it's behind the cover next to the headlight height adjuster - on a D8 it's in a similar place, possibly behind the fusebox lid?
(If you haven't got it plugged into an external diagnostic system, you don't need to do anything).
