Throttle position sensor

Post by rwb »

I got my fault code read and, as expected, it was
P0221 Throttle/Petal Position Sensor/Switch B Circuit Range/Performance Problem

So I'm after a new throttle position sensor. (This will be its third  )

Anybody got one?

The going rate on eBay seems to be anywhere between £10 and £40.

I can't see any at Euro car parts. (WTF have GSF done to their website? Is there no online catalogue any more?)

Does anyone know of any scrapyards near Basingstoke that might have 406s in?

Ta.

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

Thanks for the reply & the message.

In Service Box it's item 19 under Engine -> Air and fuel supply -> INJ CALCULATOR SENSOR
(Copied below)
The part number (for my VIN) comes up as 16 072 724 80 and it is described as SENSOR PEDAL.

I got what looks exactly the same, but it has a different part number on it. Mine is 96 433 656 80 and was off a 2.2 petrol engine.

i'll post for 20 quid.

I've got one now, thanks.

Don't know if the petrol one would be different.

Got it fitted now.

To start with I had taken up too much of the slack and the MFD kept squarking but not showing a message, and the EML would come on and go straight off. Letting the adjuster out a notch seems to have cured it.
So far so good...

Throttle seems more responsive at low revs, so maybe the old one was bust. It's predecessor, which was changed in 2005 under warranty was described as having a flat spot.

The above sensor is the one that I dismatled. (I have another one just in case.)

Following a bout of 'engine anti-pollution system defective' (this time 'Intermittent fault. Accelerator pedal signal. Coherence between 1 and 2 wire.') it was time to change it again.
So, this sensor is now re-fitted, so we'll see how long that lasts.

The one that I took off felt 'grainy' when turning it by hand.
