EML on when Idling?

Seems every now and then when I am idling for over 5 mins the EML comes on, soon as a rev to 1k it goes out.
Anyone know what this could be? Everything else is fine with the car, no problems at all.
S reg 406 1.9TD.

Check the fuel filter & in-tank strainer.

Had a similar probelm with my bro's XUD on veg oil - though his tended to be OK on idle / eml when pulling hard. Via PP2000 we discovered it was reporting an injection timing error, apparently they can't maintain the correct injection advance on anything much less than perfect fuel supply.

I've changed the fuel filter, seems plenty fuel there as I have clear fuel lines, will check the intank strainer just incase.

Just remembered I'm running on 3 glowplugs, 4th behind pump is seized and couldn't be taken out. Dont suppose that would bring on the EML on idle?

If it's the strainer, the priming bulb will usually go soft, but it's definitely worth a visual check once in a while.

The only thing a single faulty glow plug is likely to do is make it a bit less likely to fire on that cylinder until the other 3 get it turning fast enough to generate enough compession to join in. In any case the glow plugs play no part in proceedings after a minute or so of running, I'm pretty certain it has no way of monitoring them.

Another possibility, might the advance mechanism, (whatever it is

), be sticking. The Lucas pump on my bro's old 306DT did this, resulting in a more distinct diesel 'rattle' at tickover.

Still got this problem, when EML comes on I do get a diesel engine rattle more than normal.
Soon as I rev it a little, EML goes out and engine sounds normal again.
A mate plugged his computer in, but it wouldn't connect, so cant get any fault codes.

Its been mentioned on vege site, possibly EGR valve, does anyone know how to blank this?

i also wanna know how2 do this. just reading a few other forums geordie. aparantly there is a pipe from the exhaust manifold to the egr . i will search ebay for a egr valve and see the picture so i know what im looking for. should be easy to find. when i find it i will post some pictures.

egr = exhaust gas resirculation valve. . this is defo my next do2 job to block this up. and maybe decat the car .
