406 Indicator Stalk

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

406 Indicator Stalk

Post by killjoy »

I have a 1996 406.

Electrically the indicator stalk is fine but it is 'locked' mechanically and will not move in either direction, independent of how farthe steering wheel is turned. Whilst I apply pressure to the stalk the indicators will work but I cannot 'latch' them on.

I have taken the cowling off but I cannot see how the stalk works mechanically.

If you remove the arm from the housing you will see a groove that the cancelling mechanism locates in. Be careful as you disassemble, there are lots of bits that will ping apart!
This groove wears away and basically jams the arm, you can reconstruct it with epoxy as I did or pick up a cheapy on ebay.

It's in the box section that the stalk pivots in. Unfortunately no photos as I did the job before I was a member here! Very do-able job though if you lay everything out methodically.

Nigel

Thanks for the stalk, I've fitted it and its fine. I think it is smoother than the original ever was. :) :)
