Hi, I have a problem with a rapier 90 on cold mornings, the lift pump does not start the first time when the key is turned , on turning the key I get a engine imobiliser fault, if the key is turned on and off numerous times eventually the pump kicks in and the engine starts first time.I had the lift pump changed approx five years ago wnen the tank froze . The local garage have said that the problem is with the ecu, but im hoping it could be a relay, as the lift pump sometimes stays on after the ignition is turned off, but, I have read that there is no relay on the 90, is this correct?
Thanks Roley

Re: Help with Rapier 90 lift pump problem
Hi there, welcome
Having a relay depends on when your car was made - if it was before July 2001 it has a relay, if after then it's part of the ECU.
It sounds like something is iffy with the immobiliser but the relays are known to give trouble, if you have one that is...
I sometimes get the immobiliser fault: I pull the key out, turn it upside-down, then retry and it's always been ok (so far)
Your tank froze?
I've had the fuel freeze in the lines but not in the tank - you live in Siberia?

if you know/find out where the relay is i could take it off my spare car for you to see if that cures it.
Re: Help with Rapier 90 lift pump problem
Hi, thanks for the welcome. We bought the car january 2001 so, if it has a relay, where do i find it? I've looked in the black box behind the battery and there are two small relays, could it be one of these? Thought the tank had froze, had left the car outside one night when the wind came from the east and temperature dropped to -14, not quite Siberia, but colder than expected when living 500miles south of Nottingham! So a little far to take up your kind offer of the loan.
Thanks Roley

It should be in the box with the engine ecu, on the other side to the battery next to the washer and expansion bottles. I'd say this was favourite if it wasn't for your immobiliser issues (although it wouldn't be the first time I've been led astray by two faults happening at the same time
)

it wasnt a loan you can have it full time as the car is being stripped for spares.roley wrote: So a little far to take up your kind offer of the loan.

Thanks so much for the help, it was the relay and the car is now starting first time on the key again with no immobilizer faults.
Happy new year to all.
