Re: Winter tyres
Anyway back to the thread,i put a pair of winter tyres on the front last year and i could'nt believe the difference a tyre could make,it was like a different car,i even parked it in deep snow and from a standstill to try them out and it just pulled itself out with hardly a spin,i drove from Derbyshire to Oxfordshire on that bad weekend when we had all that snow with now dramas whatsoever,i think this weekend they will be going back on for the "winter" season.

Yeah, there's "excitement", then there's "totally out of control spinning backwards, sideways, forwards, sideways, backwards down snowy hills"...

Re: Winter tyres
I had some "interesting" journeys last year in the white stuff, mind you I do have myself to blame as I was running very budget tyres.
Most interesting one was when I tried to make a hill and the car refused to play ball so I used a bit of handbrake and made a 180 turn on the spot!

Well, you know that, rear wheel drive on non grippy surfaces isn't ideal.grasmere59 wrote:To be honest the bmw went nowhere in the snow,i could'nt even get it off the drive so i just drove the 406 around it !

No, you watch the thermometer - below 7 degrees C they're the best thing to have on your car

Re: Winter tyres
Checked the tyres on my car today, Pirrelli on all 4 corners,
Got M+s on the side walls, guess thats Mud & snow?
wished inever looked now,
that means ineed 4 new tyres
Why do these M&s tyres sound so Groany, more noticable in the wet ?

FarmerPug wrote:they are not just ordinary tyres, they are M and S tyres

but why are they so Groany?
theyve been on the car a year or so perhaps last owner paid good money for em and thought feck it wear em out,
had a partworn put on the spare, last month tyre chap said the 4 tyres where ok, Blind kint wait well isee him

was thinking this car was Tinny and it was just General road noise, but after today with the touch of frost/snow, sleet on the Roads the groan from em is unbearable,
will source a set of alloys that dont look too chavy and fling these M&s things

Re: Winter tyres
My winter tyres are Goodyears and they are as quiet as the normal tyres, pirelli tyres i find are noisy in standard form let alone m+s ones,i road tested a 406 a while back and it had Pirelli p6000's on and they were noisy.
