I am sorting the car out before I start doing loads of miles.
Can you all recommend for the following: -
1) Gearbox oil (I am putting slik-50 as well)
2) Engine Oil
3) Brake Fluid
I also need your opinions on an air filter; I have been looking at this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/K-N-Air-Filter-PE ... dZViewItem
do you think this really makes any difference over the standard filter, or is it a marketing thing for idiot boy racers who think they are going to get and extra 1000000000bph from the shitty Clio if they through it in?

The only difference a K&N filter has over a standard one,is the fact that you don't change them as often.
You do have to clean them and oil them though,with special filter oil,and it's at this point you say to yourself,is it worth the extra expense of buying the filter and oil,and hassle of cleaning it every so often.
Personally I think that unless you have a race engine in your car, (Like my race prepared AX) then go for a paper one.

dont bother with the k and n as already metioned you will just increase fuel consumption, which is pointless on a HDi, and dont bother with the slik 50 i have only known it to make things worse, i would use either gtd magnatec 5w 40 engine oil or mobil 1 0w40 (makes the HDi ultra quiet)
and 75w 80 castrol differential oil for the gearbox

I had a K & N panel in mine for a year, and it made no difference to consumption or performance. The main attraction was the 100k miles cleaning intervals (in normal use). bizarrely, it's an exact fit also for the other 'arfs 106 XND, where it now happily resides and has indeed helped smarten up the performance.
I used Redline MTL in my box, and it transformed the notchy, grabby change. The OE pug lubricant loses it's viscosity relatively quickly.

I've a K&N in my HDI, car seams bit better over the paper filter i had, not a huge difference. The MPG is the same or slightly better. It makes the service that bit cheaper and quicker.
Personally i don't put in expensive oil. I put in mid range oil (£15 ish) then change it twice as often instead (every 5k). I figure/hope this should give slightly better protection than really good oil with 10k of build up in it.
