This may be true, actually. Good point. That's why I bought my 406 ove some other I went to look at, it was evident it was well taken care after.grasmere59 wrote:Also although it probably means nothing but i have found in the past that cars that have been fitted with mudflaps have been owned at some point by someone who looked after them

Re: Which 406 ?
The manufacturers reccommendation (over here anyway) was 10 years. Not sure on the mileage, but I'm certain on that. Main reason that I'm so sure is that my car was 10 years old (& under 80k) when I bought it & I didn't have a record of it being changed previously, so knew it had to be done.OdinEidolon wrote:10 years? Re: Which 406 ?
I hope so! When I bought mine it had 110k miles and the seller told me it had been done but he had no receipt. Near the belt there was a notice saying it had been done at 70k.Gary406 wrote:so you think it should have been done at 136k ? guy says in his handbook it says due at 91k but he has no stamp saying it ??

Still I did it at 120k and the waterpump was at least 100k olt. Which means that either the mechanic didn't change the pump when changing the belt or the belt was still the original one... never trust anyone!

Re: Which 406 ?
iagree mate,
but unless youve got something in writing class it as not been changed,
honest opinion there mate!
listen to the side of the engine in the area of where the cambelt is if you hear anything untoward walk away,
(any metalic scraping /wearing tapping noises ,)
Be watch ful of the old tricks too,
fan blower on full when seller starts car Lean in and switch it off,
listen to the engine from idle and highish revs,
ask him you want to see it start from cold too if you can

Re: Which 406 ?
iagree mate,
the 406s are reliable,
the old red vplate one ihad was one of the most reliable cars ive ever owned,
apart from the Gearbox imploding and the heater blower fault it was good,
and that was an old motor ,

Re: Which 406 ?
With regard to the cambelt have a look at the casing around the belt as a lot of mechanics mark stuff with tipex so if you see any it's prob been done.
