Re: 406 Executive diesel for sale
My 1996 Peugeot 406 saloon 1.9 turbo diesel is for sale. It's the Executive model so has loads and loads of stuff - climate control, full leather interior, electric front seats, electric windows all round, CD multichanger, power steering etc, etc. Have a look online for the full spec.
The car is in very good condition for its age. There are the usual scratches and dings for an old car but no major nasties and nothing dodgy like rusty wheel arches.
The guy I bought the car from gave me a load of paperwork - old MOTs, service history, service records etc - to prove the mileage (around 153,000 at the moment). The owner before him was a mechanic so did lots of stuff on the car himself.
I've had it since April and have had no problems with it. I changed the oil and filter in July and have put a new front tyre on it plus had the wheel alignment done. Other than that, I've done nothing as it's needed nothing.
So, the good points - as I said above, it's in very good condition overall and has loads of kit. It also has a towbar with single electrics. The MOT is due in August 2012 and, as far as I can see, it won't need anything major doing at all.
It has the 1.9 TD engine which is bomb proof. Very, very nice to drive on long journeys. I did a 350 miles round trip on a hot, humid day in July and the old Peugeot was a very pleasant place to be.
If you drive with a light foot 50mpg is perfectly doable. Even if you're in a hurry and get the turbo spinning it doesn't seem to kill the economy too much.
The bad points - the heated front seats don't work. They are both not working so I'm guessing it's something simple like a fuse. Just haven't bothered looking yet.
When it went through the MOT the tester mentioned that a bush on the anti-roll bar on the front was a bit worn. On tight, uphill turns you can sometimes hear it, as you can when going over deep potholes, but it's not bad and not worth worrying about - the tester said it would probably be fine for the next MOT.
The left hand speakers on the stereo sometimes cut out. If you then lightly press the front of the radio they chime back in. Driving over a bump has the same effect. Clearly just a loose connection but haven't got round to sorting it.
Overall this is a very, very nice old luxury cruiser. The one and only reason I'm selling it is I'm currently working abroad and probably won't be back in UK for quite a while.
The car is stored on the Gloucestershire/Herefordshire border at my girlfriend's parents' house. It's been there for a month and is beinf regularly started and taken for a drive around the grounds.
Any questions please ask. I'm open to offers but not silly ones!
Thanks.

Re: 406 Executive diesel for sale
I can't remember exactly what it says on the service record as all the documentation is with the car but I checked this when I bought it and know the cambelt was done recently enough for me not to worry about it. I can get my girlfriend's father to get an exact mileage if you like?Gary406 wrote:any history of the timing belt changes ??

Re: 406 Executive diesel for sale
the milage doesnt bother me mate i know what they can do.
the timing belt change is more important to know when it was changed . what year and what milage...
and the condition of the body...

I'll get my girlfriend's father to check when the cambelt was done.
The bodywork is as per the description and the photos - very good condition. No rusty arches, no major dents. Just the usual minor dings and scratches from parking etc. Paintwork is in great condition. As I said, this car has clearly been very well looked after.
The only thing I can think of is the front nearside tyre was changed recently and the alloy on there now is a bit grubby. The original alloy is fine and is now the spare (with road legal tyre). Could swap the wheels round but it didn't bother me enough to do it.

Re: 406 Executive diesel for sale
I can't recall any actual dents. Just a very few small scratches and marks eg one on the rear quarter bumper, one on the rear nearside door etc. Nothing bad and certainly far better than you'd expect for a car of this age.
Should find out about the cambelt today.
