Toyota Yaris

Post by FarmerPug »

My aunt who was originally looking for a 306 got herself a yaris, its actually my grampas brothers car, he quit driving and gave my aunt the car so it wasn't too expensive :cheesy: :
its a 2005 1.0 with 25k on the clocks, full toyota service history, and it seems to be very easy on petrol.

But the question about it is, this car come from the south of ireland where they use Kilometers and the speedo and odometer were in KM/H, but my aunt before asking me about it took it to some place and got charged £60 so they could change it to MPH, but i see the cluster has a button that changes between km/h and mph  .
Although she said they had to take the cluster apart and have left a big dirty set of fingerprints on the inside of the lens, is there any ideas on how this bit comes apart?

Thanks lozz, a good document there, the instrument cluster finish panel must just pry out of the way and the cluster is held in with screws, the actual lcd screen i think is quite small at the end of the magnifying glass.

just had another nosey,

the fasia just clips on mate, just get you nails or something that wont rip it to bits on the edge and give it a bit of a tug and itl unclip Dont pull it too far forward you might break the wire,

see pic,

once clocks are out its same principal as pulling a Mfd apart same sort of clips holding it together,

ah thanks will give it a go when she comes back.
the yaris isnt such a bad car a lot of hard plastics but it feels well put together unlike her old corsa, and everything works as it should although the standard radio seems real tricky to work

they still make a newer yaris its actually got a new model out recently all quite nice, the aygo is the one they make with PSA, then the iq is a tiny car

with this yaris though there is something about the engine i dont like its not lively enough i know at all the size of it there cant be a ball of power but the fiat was the same yet felt more enjoyable to drive, the yaris is a bit boring.

but the yaris is still a good car they get good reviews about being reliable and any used ones go for strong money

ive never botherd even lookin at the yaris tbh,
like you say there Boring but there must be areason for them being so popular, perhaps the low insurance bracket and the mpg +
there built to be safe,

people say to me what do iwant with a picasso its ugly and bland , Agreed,
yeh its ugly but iwouidnt get that much room and mpg low insurance bracket in anything else,

so theres areason for these Daft boring looking motors,

fiat is a good car there not boring as some but are they as safe,

ugly cars get the good Ncap ratings

Not a massive fan of the Yaris - but they are mechanically solid and will keep on going for a billion miles before they blow up. Seen one with 400,000km on the clock here...

The yaris has a 4 star rating for this model and the panda only gets 3 so the toyota is safer.

Though the clio has got 4 stars and its still a more fun to drive than the yaris, although you do have to put up with the odd rattle here and there.

The taxi drivers also have a love for the avensis, mk1 i never liked but the mk2 was much nicer.
About the yaris, i managed to get the cluster out, simply prying out the surround removing a few screws and some electrical connectors it just pulls out. I was able to take it apart and remove the finger prints. It does say sagem on it which is french. Putting it back in i sh1t myself because it wouldn't turn on, although after much head scratching it turned out that a plug hadn't been reconnected, now it works my aunt is no longer complaining. Although after looking on a toyota place, the £60 she paid was a bit unnecessary considering a button changes the units.

Since that the car hasn't gave any trouble, she asked me why the cd player didn't work, i put one in, it made a funny noise like a tape player used to make when it jammed, when i pressed eject out came £30 in the form of a folded over £10, and £20 note. taking the money out of the way and putting the cd back in it played no problem.

That doesn't sound right, my dads old d4d did around 45mpg, if the computer displayed instantaneous mpg 26 might occur. (booting the hdi can get it down to about 15mpg  )
