But it's Sunday Lozz, everyone gets Sunday off. Well, nearly everyone...

Is this a real snowed-in, or an English "3mm of snow and the country falls apart" snowed-in? :P

Hardly anything at all here so far, but as the junky says, it's in the post...

No snow yet just black ice on the roads, this winter isn't as bad as last year was.
Make sure you keep your attic door open so the pipes up there don't freeze and burst, we had a real bad flood in the house last year from pipes cracking.

Best hold off here for the next 5 days. Wife's got the kids in Ireland since last Sunday & I've just had to change their return flights from Tuesday to Thursday - if it snows Wednesday & the airports go tits up again leaving my little boy in Ireland for Christmas I will not be a happy chappy.

All the watery stuffs up in the attic here, even the tank for the hot water, but what burst was the cold water pipe going from the house into the garage which burst and flooded two bedrooms and the hall, the floor about a week later had expanded into a big triangle, and no hardware places were open, if you do have pipes up in the attic lag them well and even put a blow heater in to stop the water freezing.

Either leave a tap running a bit in the garage or turn off the cock and allow the pipe to drain. Insulation is a good one too.

It has rained last night/now and washed away the grit/salt, it's 0deg C and I've just driven into work over butt-clenching sheet ice

I've got 2 tanks in the attic and a fair bit of pipework - all insulated with 30mm thick Phenolic Foam (equivalent to 50mm glass fibre). The building regs require the ceiling area directly below the tanks to be left uninsulated letting the warmth of the room below to help keep the frost off the tanks/pipework. My attic space is sealed with no eaves ventilation so it stays kinda warmish compared to others.

Leaving the loft hatch open is one solution but you may fill the loft space with condensation.

 Inever knew that mate,
i insulated our loft last year, theres 3 tanks up there and ive just put insulation everywhere,
but saying that one of the Tanks fills up with hot water, so hopefully the other two wont freeze

iwill have anosey later,
We have aloft from hell, its about the length of the loft space of 3 terraced houses :(
