door lock

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

door lock

Post by ronnyp »

Don't know if this is right place but can any-one point me in right direction. The remote key fob has not worked for a long time, I have locked and unlocked doors using the key but today key wont work so I cant lock the car. Sometimes the key feels it is jamed other times it just turns and nothing happens

The locks on these cars are spring loaded so that if someone tries to open it with the wrong key or a screwdriver etc. the lock just spins round & round. They also do this with the right key if the lock is stiff.

It sounds like your lock has seized & you're getting both this and the stiff lock thing, the usual cure for that is to squirt some WD followed by some graphite powder (i.e. pencil lead) but I think the seized lock means more serious action is required.

tried that but made no difference. I cant afford to take it to dealers and I'm a bit worried about leaving it unlocked all the time

they look like alot of work but,
you can wire them up so you only have to use 3 or four wires,
most of the wiring on the kits is for all the flashing indiactor lights and headlights which isnt needed imho,

even one or two wires would be hard for me. I would be happy if I could find some-one to do it for me for a reasonable fee

Sames sequence of events has applied to me in recent times. I've found that the correlation of cold weather makes the barrel either stick or spin and the blip stopped a few weeks back... GUTTED :'(
