Rear speaker upgrade
Well, I've just been given a 1997 406 SRi - and it's in pretty good shape - everything works including the original stereo, and everything's original.
Now, I can't be having that - I need to modify things!
First up - I've stuck in a new head unit, and once I get my hands on another amp and wiring kit I'll put the old sub and box from my Multipla in it.
However, I do have a fair selection of speakers lying around, and was wondering what the deal was with the rear speakers?
What size are they? Is it easy to fit 6x9s in place of them?
Any info would be good, thanks.

Re: Rear speaker upgrade
the standards at back are 6x9s but shallow ones.
fitting aftermarket ones makes the magnet catch on the metal shelf under the parcel shelf and the shelf doesnt sit correct
altho you cant tell once pushed back on and seats are up.
here is how i did my 6x9s

For D8 though, the parcel shelf is different, you can just cut the risers out of MDF and put on top of the rectangular "depression" in the shelf.

Re: Rear speaker upgrade
I want to change my rear speakers too in the new year, but I haven't any proper tools to do this mod to fit them. Can you get custom fit rear aftermarket speakers for the 406?

Re: Rear speaker upgrade
Thought as much! Just had a quick google and I found these:

Says they have wider but shallower magnets, they might be ok...

Re: Rear speaker upgrade
I think I fit some Alpine speakers that have small magnets - http://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/product ... -21902.htm then you don't need any adapters and it's a straight swap.

Those alpine ones look nice, only around £30-40 quid a pair!

Re: Rear speaker upgrade
Going back to this, as the factory rears are quite a shallow fit, would you be able to fit aftermarket ones and just use the grille they come with? Or will they still not fit properly and not look right?

Re: Rear speaker upgrade
not sure if it'll be any help but I recently purchased some FLi audio door speakers for my 405. The reason I mention is that they had quite a shallow magnet which I needed to fit the 405's front doors, other brands wouldn't fit. Maybe FLi uses a similar design across the range...?
