2.2 petrol mpg
Had a chat with a guy who's selling a 2.2 sri estate and he reckons he gets 35 mpg round town and 47 mpg on a run. Are these figures possible from this engine?

Re: 2.2 petrol mpg
on a long run you may get 47mpg
but my 1.9 xud only does 35 round town so i would say NO hes telling porkies.
never had a 2.2 myself . just going off my 1.9 TD
i would say more 25 mpg round town not 35

Re: 2.2 petrol mpg
I agree with Gary here, 25-30mpg around town. 45+ on a cruise would be pushing it but probably possible
To put it in perspective...
My Focus 1.6 (Heavy foot - Light foot)
Around town (25 - 35mpg)
Country roads/Dual carrigeways etc (30 - 44mpg) Majority of my driving
Long motorway runs (37 - 49mpg) 49mpg usually sitting around 65mph, overtaking lorries one at a time trying not to affect traffic in the middle lane.
Betwen 70-80 I usually get ~45mpg
85+ cruising speed it usually drops to high 30's
Hope that helps

Re: 2.2 petrol mpg
iwouid say 28 -30 mpg round town,
Puggy petrol engines are not bad idont think on the mpg.
compare it to something else as heavy with same size engine, and it wont be as good,

Re: 2.2 petrol mpg
If people are genuinely getting the mid 40's mpg from a petrol, why are we running diesels?

Re: 2.2 petrol mpg
you can only get 40mpg or above from apetrol car on a motorway run,Busman wrote:If people are genuinely getting the mid 40's mpg from a petrol, why are we running diesels?
kept at a steady 55mph anything above that mpg drops right down
Round town mpg in apetrol is up and down like a yo yo, one minute it will be 22mpg then 33 -36
all down to speed and stop start plays affect,
diesel will chug along happily and keep abetter mpg toward petrol,
petrol is better than diesel from cold thats the only diffence ican see

Becuase you got to always drive a petrol carefully to get good economy out of them.Busman wrote:If people are genuinely getting the mid 40's mpg from a petrol, why are we running diesels?
Diesels you can thrash and still get a billion mpg

Re: 2.2 petrol mpg
Another issue here for me is how many people genuinely check the accuracey of the trip computer? The only way of doing this is several full tanks of fuel and doing the maths. If you havent checked it, how would you know if its any good?
Due to sat navs most of us now know that speedos over read. If i'm doing an indicted 70, then my sat nav says 65ish for example.

Re: 2.2 petrol mpg
Thats utter bollacks,
anyone witha Hdi will agree,
thrash it and put load on the turbo does your mpg remain the same or does the mpg fall through the floor,?
iused to get mid 30s out of my 110 hdi round town
where do you get billions of miles from
perhaps xud is better on diesel
but if thats the case why wouid you run one on cooking oil

Re: 2.2 petrol mpg
i know from my car being empty. doesnt have to be full ... a car with a full tank will do less mpg than one with empty tank anyway .Busman wrote:Another issue here for me is how many people genuinely check the accuracey of the trip computer? i always get 75-80 miles from 10 litres of fuel. (no bull) then the fuel light pops on

Re: 2.2 petrol mpg
But people on here are always moaning that the fuel gauge is not accurate, so that would make it no good to check the mpg.
But 80 miles from 2 gallons on a diesel sounds about right though.

Generally the 406 gauge is great for a quick glance. But if you give it regular glances you sorta think... Errrr what?Busman wrote:But people on here are always moaning that the fuel gauge is not accurate, so that would make it no good to check the mpg.

Re: 2.2 petrol mpg
yep on motorway it goes to over 100 miles .
you wont get that from no 2.2 petrol engine especially 80 miles from 2 gallon ...
my friend has a 1.5 petrol engine. he drives it very very light everywere and still only gets 50-60 miles off 2 gallon
