aerial base 01 hdi estate

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

aerial base 01 hdi estate

Post by martinez »

had enough of the dodgy radio reception so decided to investigate. found that the aerial at the rear was well rusted up and snapped off leaving a metal stud sticking out of the base unit. Do these aerials have a male or female thread ? ie. does it screw in or on.
anyway, without the aerial the reception seems the same. i was thinking of dumping it and buying one of these shark fin units

are they any good, and if so where does the cable run to inside the car ? hope it doesn't go all the way back to the cd payer, or do I have to cut it ?

well, I can't get the last bit of the aerial out as it's rusted in and if you try and unscrew it it just goes round and round. so basically the base is scrap too.
I need the whole thing really that's why I was thinking of the shark thingy.
I took the base off and the wires are quite long, but do they go all the way back to the cd player ? don't fancy that job, I'd rather cut it and join it up
any ideas ?
I've got a watch on ebay unless someone here knows of one

thanks for reply but this is what I need, and it may well answer the question of how long the leads are

well, looks like I spoke too soon ! a new gremlin has emerged.
Radio works fine for around 30 minutes, then it all turns to mush and I have to either put the CD player on, or turn it off for 5 minutes. If I turn it back on again, it works fine for another 30 minutes. It only does this if I turn it off though, if I just use the CD player it remains mush when I change back.
Any ideas ?

just a thought it might be a power issue
eg for some reason after a certain time the power to the aeriel lead fails and switching it back on restarts it again
maybe when it happens again check to see if you have power at the aeriel end
but i could be wrong

well mate, looking at others on this forum these radios don't seem the best, I may just junk it and put something reliable in. Don't you just love cars eh !
