The AA

Post by grasmere59 »

Can the AA read fault codes? As a previous posting of mine this morning my car has thrown up "anti pollution fault defective" although the car is running o.k. at the moment, i'm 100 odd miles from home i was thinking of calling the AA and see if nothing else they could read the fault code or even reset it?

they probably can yes. but even if they reset it it will just come back on untill the offending fault is fixed ...

it will more than likely be a sensor somewere. so driving it home should be ok

The AA have some top notch diagnostic stuff,
but there Has to be A Breakdown before theyl attend a call out,

perhaps a loose wire or unplug something might be a good sneaky option, :supafrisk:

Edit, just read your 100miles from home, perhaps just telling them the car keeps cutting out will be enough for em to plug in there laptop,

That'll be me 2 weeks ago when i changed the air filter and cleaned out the housing but i would have thought it would have flagged up by now though,i'm wondering if the maf is toast as the car does seem down on power a bit compared to my other 110.

It's starts instant and ticks over a treat,it does'nt "get up and go" like my old one though,i sold my old car to my neighbour and he said i can try his maf on my car if i want to prove a point but i'm scared i'll mess his car if i take his maf off!,i think i'll change the maf for a new one anyway or clean it.

You wont mess his car up by borrowing the Maf, as long as the ign remains off,
But isee you point tho,

iknow it sounds strange but My old Vreg 110 hdi was alot more quicker than the 03 11o ive just got,
But that might be the extra weight comparison of comparing saloon to estate ,

What i can't make out though my old one was a 2002 52 estate and the new one is a 2003 53 estate so can't figure out why there so different, the other thing i have noticed is when i gave my old one some stick it smoked like diesels do but not a jot from this one or hardly any (as looked at in the rear view mirror) also my old one was far better on fuel than this one.

The vreg one ihad, was cat less,
it smoked alot when you slamed down the loud pedal, but that got balanced out once ihad it remaped,
ive also noticed abit of Red ex perks them up abit, or maybe thats just a Placebo effect, :|

I did think about the cat as my old car had the original pug one fitted still and this car has an aftermarket one,i've got a spare aftermarket one and am thiking of getting it cut open and guts removed and welded back up again. The intercooler is a bit oily and might have a leak but have got a 10 month old one to fit soon.
