spares

Post by shiralee »

My 406 diesel saloon gear box has gone, just after spending out on new clutch. If I buy a diesel 406 estate for similar year how much of the scrapped saloon can I use to cannibalise for an estate?

Yes indeed, a Y-reg Hdi.(155k miles). Having just invested £2k in clutch, brakes, tyres and tow bar I am loathe to give up on it. If I SORN it, I have a mechanic friend who can plunder it for most spares - I wd prefer an estate, as the saloon is not really a beast of burden. I have been quoted £2.5k for a new gearbox!

Don't give up on the car, but do give up on your mechanics ... wow, that's a lot of money

Omega is scrapping an HDi 90, chances are he's got a gearbox you could have. He'd love it if you paid him £2,500 for it, but he'll probably ask a fair bit less than that :)

Apparently I need a BVM gearbox Bosch for a 5 speed. I wd take a chance on one from a scrappy if I can get the fitting costs down. Anyone near Devon happen to know of one?

BVM just means manual gearbox, it needs to be a touch more specific than that  If it's a 110 then it's probably an ML5T and the 90 gearbox won't fit. If you post/pm me your vin I should be able to tell you for sure.

2,500 quid should buy you a complete car with ticket :frown: I suggest if you do go back to the same garage make sure it's at night and you're carrying a can of petrol and a box of matches

Justin case, it's a hydraulic clutch with a rod gearchange.

Notice the car just sneaked in there right before the electronics went fully mad. Sorry, mux :supafrisk:
