Thought i would post on here to see if anyone is able to help.
My partner and i are about to come to the end of a 2 year fixed term for our mortgage with halifax.
We want to look around at best offers etc, but we dont know where to start. we dont really know whats out there these days. is it easy to change - we might stay with halifax if they offer the best, but if we do nothing, we will automatically go onto a variable rate (not sure of the rate, nor do we know if its the best rate they offer).
any of you guys been through this and able to offer any advice/help?

imho there aint much to choose between them, apart from fees. the lower interest deals tend to have higher fees. how do you pay the fees? just lump them in with the mortgage, cancelling any benefit of lower interest rates. tbh ya got to be pretty savvy.
personally i would go for standard variable rate as interest rates are still rock bottom. (0.5%)providers then stick another 2-3% on top.also try and stay away from big banks, alot of the small bulding societys usually have the best deals going. try looking on comparison sites as you would for your car insurance!
currently i have 12months left on my 5 yr fixed term @5.99% which was mortgage of the month on a few comparison sites when i took it out in 2008. i took a gamble with recession looming and ultimately lost as i am now 65 quid a month overpaying in comparison to the standard variable rate offered by my lender.
oh well ya pays ya money ya take ya choice
never swapped actual provider but i should think its fairly simple after all they all want YOUR custom, so i would think most of the donkey work is done by them you just sign the forms.do a bit of research and go in to halifax branch and see what they can offer, then say well i can get this deal from xyz can you better it/match it. if they want to keep your custom i'm sure they will offer you some incentive to stay
good luck doggy

Damned if you mortgage up to the hilt.
Damned if you rent and are at the mercy of useless private landlords.
Bloody property.
