Clutch Slipping

Post by Gary406 »

while were on the subject of clutches (other post) thought i would ask this. its been on my mind since it stopped but it baffled me

when i got my new d8 1.9 few weeks ago the clutch was slipping . not bad but very noticable if you put your foot down...

after having the cambelt done and aux belt the clutch hasnt slipped since.

i thought surely this job wouldnt make a difference to the clutch. but it has . now i try my best to make clutch slip but it wont...

Most probs youve just got used to the car mate,
iknow youve gone from a 1.9 derv to a 1.9 derv but there will be differnce in bitting points etc,
iget all cars on a steep hill and floor it. if the revs climb and loose speed clutch plate is low,

Maybe you've 'un-kinked' the clutch cable, (or otherwise freed off something that was interfering with its action).

In any case, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. 8)

consider yourself lucky but start putting some money aside for a clutch change just in case...

If you've got the time and the tools why not swap it for the one in your spares car.
Admittedly it's a used clutch so it wont last as long as a new one but if you do it yourself it will only cost your own time.

Mine is like yours, when i poot my foot down it will slip like hell, but it recovers, but when it recovers i can't pull out much more power, it looks like it's hesitating.

Anyway, i got a solid flywheel convertion from valeo, will be fitted 17th this month.

I hope this will be good for remap.

unless oil was spilt over the gearbox it probably wasnt oil . the seal is behind the flywheel making it impossible for oil to get on the clutch . 8)
