Won't be raining but the spanners will probably stick to your hands with the cold!

Gary, picked up my new LX this morning and it's got a dodgy speedo like yours did, great pics of the pcb to locate the fault but can you explain slowly using small words exactly how I get the clocks out please :D

Btw isn't it annoying when you realise your old car had so little power!!!
I'm sure my new one would have hit 110 on the way home if it wasn't illegal to travel at those sorts of speeds on public roads

Overall it's a great little bargain, loads of power and very clean, full service history, new radiator and cam belt changed 18 months ago :cheesy:

Things to do 'so far'
speedo travles to 40 then skips about until you hit 70 and works again, speed sensor or clocks to be determined
front bumper has been clonked leaving small hole and a scuff, fill sand and spray
fit rubber strip from old D8 as drivers side has been split by shoes as per usual
clutch bite is a high but doesn't slip, possibly auto adjust on cable or in need of clutch kit, need to investigate but very driveable for now

Sorry to hijack but I just wanted a bit more info on the clock removal, will get some pics up in a new post over the next couple of days, to busy enjoying the extra power at the minute

Hi Gumby -- from another thread:

Pull the steering wheel out as far as it'll come and push it downwards. Undo the three Torx screws above the instrument panel.

You need to remove the plastic facade from around the cluster and the central and drivers side air vents. The judicious use of a large flat screwdriver and some brute force will help here. Start at the side closest to the drivers side door. You can remove the panel at the end and reach inside and try and push it out.

Once you've got that off, there are 4 Torx screws around the instrument panel. Remove those and pull the cluster out from the top first, then lift the bottom out. There are two connectors (yellow and blue) on the black, unclip them and remove the cluster.

Gary -- looking forward to the pics! I'm sort of on the lookout for a set of leathers for mine, the cloth seats are starting to wear quite badly. A leather steering wheel wouldn't go amiss either, hehe!

no worrys gumpy hijack all you like

clocks dead easy to remove. 3 torx bolts above the clocks to remove the dash surround with 3 air vents in

once thats off. 4 torx bolts hold clocks in 1 in each corner. put fingers around top of clocks and clip out. might be hard when you remove 4 torx screws . just pull hard from top.

cambelt change is very good .. dont worry bout clutch. take your time with it might last you another 2 years . mine judders on start off but doesnt slip yet . will just keep it going untill it goes fully ..
i think 99% chance it will be clocks and dry joints. both my d8s suffored this. very easy fix with a good soldering iron.

get down to maplins and get a decent high wattage soldering iron kit. or ebay i got one from.

yes very easy. 2 torx screws from behind the airbag . to take airbag off. (MUST disconnect battery before doing this)

then one big bolt in the center of the wheel.

very easy job

well been very busy today. my head is banging after doing all this in 4 hours ....
changed my front leathers over now and fixed the non existence airbag light. now thats working perfect

seats being removed

Image

found this on the drivers seat . this is probably the reason the airbag control unit was knackered
anyway this wire has to be transfered to my leather seats because for some reason peugeot decided to change the plugs under the carpets on the car so transfering this wire meant i could plug in the seats to the car
i re-connected the wires by twisting them tight and wraping insulation tape round them . then fitted the orange wire to the leather seat

Image
Image

next was changing over the seatbelts. had my black belts that i got from farmerpug . grey belts on black leather dont look right so may as well change them while seats were out anyway

Image
Image
Image

seats removed and center console ready to change over the airbag ecu and install the cables for power to leather seats

Image
Image

installing power cables for power to the electric seats. run my 2 cables through the access gromet behind the glovebox to battery

Image

this is were i earth my electric leather seats too . under radio there is an earth point

Image

and this is the cables all in position to power the electric seats

Image

center console being put back

Image
Image

and finally. plug power into seats and the airbag wire and job coming to the end

D8 leathers are so much nicer than D9's!

Just out of curiosity, how come you used (what looks like?) 10mm² sized cable for the seats and then dropped down to something much smaller?
Not putting your work down, just being nosey :P
Also if you wanted to tidy up the cable you can get braided sleeving called a cable sock from maplins. You can get them in all sizes ;)

cant see wires when its all installed sam . no need for tidy cable..

the lenth of the cable from the yellow plugs insnt long enough to reach to battery and this was standard from my glx seats when i got them. . so i just hooked up some 30 amp connector blocks then used some spare 8gauge amplifier cable i had to run it to batetry and earth.
thats why its thicker... i could of used speaker cable but had non spare so just used what i had at the time... it shouldnt be a problem so just left it like this

and near the battery in the red cable is 2 small fuse holders with small fuses in just in case ..
these are the fuse type holders i used
i used same size fuzes thats listed in haynes for electric seats
