406 Vs 407 Discuss

I've been looking at 407's as a potential replacement for my 406 (which is about to hit 200k) - but the thing is, they are expensive for what they are and looks wise, really do not do it for me.

I drove a V6 a while back, and it didn't feel like a significant "step up" to what I have at the moment. So therefore, a Megane R26 is looking mighty tempting!

Maybe if I were middle aged, with a family - then would the 407 be more appealing.

The SW boot is probably still big enough for me, but that full-length glass roof with electic blind?

What could possibly go wrong?

Big boss man at work has a top spec saloon, i think it's a xenith in black and it does look good.
I prefer the sw but only because it looks better than the saloon, extra boot space is always handy with a large family. (how many kids can you fit in the 407's boot? if i slam the boot I can get all 4 of mine in the 406's
My thoughts are if it drives and handles like my trusty D8 it has to be a contender for my next car. Well maintained 406's with sensible mileage are getting less common by the day. Pug electrics are what they are regardless of the model, the more toys you have the more things to go wrong.
With some manufacturers pushing close to 200 horses out of a 2 litre diesel 136 from the 407's HDI should be well within limits for a long life engine assuming you maintain and service regularly(110 from the 1.6 is clearly pushing things)
Compared to the my 1.9td the 2 litre HDI 407 gives me an extra 46hp, much cheaper tax, similar (possibly slightly cheaper) insurance and as my 406 is now over 14 years old a lot less squeaks and rattles. Plus even the poverty spec will have more toys than my 1997 GLX.

certainly not at that price. would that spec have the tyre pressure moniters on it?? £80 for one valve on them tyres
was talking to a guy who was running a 407 with the V6 hdi, think its 2.7l. he loves his car, and reckoned the only trouble he had was with the aircon and the tyre pressure sensor( which was a dodgy valve)
interestingly i thought i would have a goose for one of the V6 hdi,a couple of months back, and couldn't find 1 for sale, admittedly i couldn't be bothered to trawl through 20 pages of results but even 6 or 7 pages into autotrader didn't turn 1 up.
but you can seriously take ya pick on the 2.0l , there's loads of them lol

You certainly can take your pick of the 2.0 136 HDis (or even a few 1.6s), but the one in the link is the 2.2 170bhp version.

I didn't think it was too bad a price for one of those from a dealer.

Remaps to 206 bhp / 338 lb/ft. Almost tempted.

all bar the base 's' has the tyre pressure monitors, not much of any issue with them and if you do just get them switched off with pp.

Def, and their performance looks pretty good on paper. But unless it's sommat a bit special -- like that red thing, above -- I think I'd rather stick with a 406.

Just what is that 2.0 136 anyway?
Is it a 2.0 110 with some tweaks (what tweaks)? Or is it some kind of unrelated Ford contraption?

I still hanker after a 407 XS Sport, but until work improves, i'm sticking with the old girl

Infact I was at some traffic lights with a 407 coupe this morning, usual diesel clatter comming from the Coupe. Then he booted it and it turned into a V6 hum... I think I know what my next cars going to be

The coupe would be my pick. Not quite as elegant as the 406 coupe, but still a contender for replacing the Accord coupe.
