Post by Welly »

Here's me new MOT cert:

They are a 'receipt style' cert with the details being recorded on the VOSA database.

The car passed no problem, well it would with new wishbones, top mounts, drop links, rear stays and new discs and pads

Withdrawing that screen sticker might encourage people to take up the £1.50 text reminder service, nice little earner eh?

I think you'd have to check with VOSA when buying a car with an MOT just to be sure it's genuine. I used to take the green certificate as gospel (maybe a mistake) but then the last 4 cars have been from Dealers so I didn't worry.

I remember the stickers when I lived in GB.

NI has nifty little MOT discs for a reminder to show everyone

Good idea, I don't know why this country hasn't adopted the European way of displaying your Insurance proof too.

Only problem is Irish cars half the windscreen is now taken up by various discs (VED tax, NCT(their MOT) and insurance):

Ithink thats a good idea that the irish have on the Discs,
half expected britain following suit but iguess there not clever enough to come up with something as simalar,
no doubt the insurance companys will be doing something in the future tho, to help catch out policyholders that have someone Fronting for them, perhaps everything will end up having a serial number ,

i dont think UK will have insurance disc.
no need for them . police seem to have it under control with all the anpr equipment in their cars.

Agreed, with the proliferation of ANPR both in their cars but also, worryingly, by the roadside (those vulture cameras), the peelers can see what is being driven when and where.

Anpr is not fool proof,
anyone can borrow a car and drive through a camera and they wont be stopped,
also when you buy a car most are still on the data base for Days but the driver couid have no insurance,

ihad my peugeot 306 wrote off by an idiot, he had no insurance but when irang the police they said he was on the data base,
it was only after isaid iwouid ring his insurers there and then he came clean,

When I accidentally ran out of tax, drove though the black coloured ANPR vultures and thought it was going to be an automatic letter.
It wasn't, got it sorted that afternoon, all was fine.

The yellow ANPRs are probably too concerned with speed to be bothered doing DB lookups.

The old "It's in the post" trick too.
14 days you're allowed to keep it off the road without taxing or SORNing, but you aren't meant to have it on the road / drive it as soon as the tax is up.
In practice, I'm sure most of us have done it at some point. Especially taking a car to get MOT work done that's been sitting untaxed for a while, to get an MOT to tax it.
