heater blower

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

heater blower

Post by grasmere59 »

The heater blower did'nt start today and i've had the motor out and put it across a battery and it's o.k.,i'm getting 14.2 volts at the motor connection plug no matter where i set the fan speed but the motor wont run sitting in the footwell connected,it ran once and when i put the speed up to max it went at hyper speed and then just stopped.Would i be right in perhaps thinking it won't run at 14.2 volts and has some sort of over voltage protection? Why would i be getting a constant 14.2 volts at the motor all the time? ny info greatly appreciated as i'm supposed to be going away in it at the weekend and can't go without a blower. :(

Update: When you connect the plug to the blower the voltage dissapears,i disconnected the 2 big multipin plugs to check for overheating or corrosion but all o.k.,i reconnected the plugs and the fan came on laying in the footwell,it worked on demist and up to speed 3 but when i put it flat out it went mega fast and then stopped and wouldn't restart untill i disconnected the multiplugs and reconnected them again and then it restarted and ran in all speeds except flat out,in auto it seems to stay at a constant speed, should it speed up if you set the temp flat out?

Just went round to my neighbours to see how his blower works (my old car) and went back to mine to make a comparison and mine is working now on all speeds!,put the fan back in the heater and it seems to work o.k. now although it vibrates on full speed but it might have always done that because i've never run the fan flat out before.I'm buggered if i know what was the problem. :?
