ABS - Is it possible to make it less sensitive?

I've got a problem where i have decent pads on the car, and now in the wet the abs is constantly kicking in when i brake on anything remotely considered slippery... i.e. painted lines, metal joining plates, etc...

It's frustrating and dangerous. Can you desensitize the abs system or disable it?

I dunno, perhaps someone with the right gear could talk to the ecu Perhaps you need to check out the reluctor rings, I'm pretty sure someone in the recent past had over-sensitive brakes that were caused by a broken ring.

You could always just unplug the ecu or pull the fuse

Either replace the reluctor rings if they're broken, or buy some decent tyres

Yeah the tyres are cheapies, but i can't justify spending money on decent tyres for my 1.9td slug. I'd rather spend the money on the 205.

Then leave a lot more room when braking so you don't have to push the pedal hard enough to kick in the ABS. The 406 is a heavy car, so cheap tyres have a huge effect on steering and braking, especially in the wet

The 406 isn't really all that heavy it's the same as a 307... But yeah, i'll have a look at the abs rings as it seams to have gotten worse this winter.

I'm not actually putting that much pressure on the pedal, thats the biggest problem i'm having. I'm putting less pressure on the pedal to stop the 406 than i do in the 307.

Might have to do with the pads having a higher co-efficient of friction than the factory pads. But yeah i'll probably have to get better tyres, it's just frustrating as they are perfectly fine for all other aspects of driving (wet cornering, gravel, etc...) just braking on very slippery surfaces.

I feel your pain...

I have a metal drain cover heading into my driveway. Without fail, every time there is rain - i get the ABS to kick in. A real pain in the arse and the funny looks I get from other residents

Pulling out the small grey plug near the LH strut tower disables the system.
The brakes then revert to 'non ABS' status.
However you will get a message reminding you that there is an ABS fault each time you start up or
every time a door opens or after 'low fuel' on the MFD with the associated annoying 'beep'.

Agree with above post about cracked toohed ring, probably on one of the front CV joints.
Have to remove drive shaft to replace, but not particularly difficult.
