I had two mark 1 Clios and they were both pretty solid cars.
The first had been run absolutely ragged by its previous owners - zero maintenance, literally - the thing was utterly f*cked mechanically (shafted gearbox, brakes were apparently a disaster, almost no oil in the sump, almost no water in the expansion bottle, no screenwash, still on factory-fitted filters after 109,000 miles) - but it still drove really well, started first time every time, no bother; had a nice pokey 1.4 petrol engine and certainly seemed to have a bit of fizz to it. Was even better after getting its first ever proper service.
The second was properly maintained and was again utterly reliable, but this one was only a 1149cc and had absolutely no poke whatsoever.

Welly, have you seen the Hybrid Volvos yet?
My son has been going on about them since he came back from his training course at Daventry.

I'm not sure whether to read that as being good or bad?jasper5 wrote:Welly, have you seen the Hybrid Volvos yet?

I've fallen out with my Volvo at the moment, the Ford-derived suspension has let me down

I'd buy another one, like the new V60 Sportwagon, because they look pretty fine but by god they are not made like they used to be

Re: Clio 1.5DCi
My first car was a mk1 1.2 Renault Clio Campus.
Wee 4 speed gearbox, absolutely no gadgets, but then nothing to go wrong.
Ragged it down the motorway one day, hit the heady heights of 75mph. Got home, steam everywhere, popped the bonnet, oil everywhere.
I'd overfilled it in my youthful enthusiasm. New oil filler and expansion caps and a hosedown of the engine bay it was right as rain.
Only got rid because a BMW ran into the back of it.
