rear centre seat belt mech sticking again

Hi there just joined 406 owners club as I love my 406L peugot estate. She is getting on in life now reg 2001 she never really lets me down just costs lots at Mot time. Had her since 2003 and second owner. Body work good and suspension fine with 109,000 miles on the clock.

just had her checked for MOT at end of month here's the verdict
2 new tyres track rod end replacement 2 rear brakes discs and pads 1 rear wheel bearing replacement (had front ones done last year) and again!!!!!!! centre rear seat belt sticking. not cheap. looking like £400-500 all in.

Before I get all the work done need to know if anyone has had problem with seat belt sticking and if so how/if can this be sorted before coughing out for new replacement. I have had this sticking before but partner due to lack of time cut the seat belt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ( Me not impressed ) and last year mechanic replaced back seat with belts attached.
Any brains I can pick would be grateful before I spend.

the seatbelts release only when the seatbelt roller is at a certain angle to gravity .
you need to take the rear parcel shelf out and check that the seatbelt roller is properly bolted down.

if it is bolted down properly you will need to replace it. should cost about ten quid on ebay ... easy job ,,,

PS do not over force the bottom bolt on the seatbelt under the rear seats. it will snap and leave the bolt in the hole. as i found out on my previous D8. use plenty wd40. if the bolt sticks when undoing it then bolt it back in and try again. spraying plenty wd40 each time you bolt it out and back in. screwing it in and out a lot will loosen it better,

it is a shame to fail MOT for a seat belt that is never used.
Everyone will be please decided to pay for repairs My car may be an old lady but she is my old lady.
So pleased found 406OC today and glad to be a member.

If its the mot your worried about,
borrow/use a baby seat stick that in the middle, (Just for the mot test )

Mot chap is not allowed to touch a baby seat or test the belt its atached too

Not quite so easy with the estates - the belt is built into the seat!

All the estates do. Xantias didn't though.

Could be confusing my Xantia memories with my 406 memories. Strange that given they were based on similar components, they didn't share seatbelt mechanisms.

That would be because the Xantia came 2-3 years before the 406, so would be more 405 than 406. Peugeot & Citroen tend to bring out their equivalent new models with a couple of years gap between them meaning that each new model would be a slight evolution of the previous PSA release.

A solution which has been offered here before is that you can leave the centre rear seatbelt buckled, so there's always some slack you can use to free it up.

However, I don't know if you can lower the seat with it like that

That's what I used to do, but middle belt gets used daily now. You can lower the seat like that, but the little plastic bit at the top slips into the seat & you can't lift it again! When I fold the seat down I clip it into the front passenger seat buckle to keep it out of the rear seat.

Hey Guys thanks for all the advice. Rear seat belt working now before completely dismantling car seat checked plastic holding at the top to the seat belt removed it and hey presto seat belt moved freely. Thank God!!!!!!
Clip replaced and still moves freely but will keep all details for future as Sod's law I will need it sometime.
Still keeping fingers crossed for Mot tomoz
