Indeed, CRT is no problem with a digital tuner: I had such a setup for years before I got an LCD TV last year.

Switch-over is next month here, currently we get freeview but no HD channels -- so getting the LCD was a bit pointless

The stuff about aerials is to do with signal strength.
Before switch-over the digital channels are broadcast at reduced power. This is why a good aerial is needed in order to receive the digital channels.
After switch-over the power will be increased, so you may be able to receive them after all.

I agree with Gary about digital aerials, there is no such thing.

As far as the caravan aerial goes, for the digital switch over you just need a digital set top box such as a freeview box.

In other words the caravan aerial will be just the same as it was and the same as your home aerial at switchover time.

The problem i have with them is friends and relatives they get new lcd tv's and have me take it for them, i had 4 in the attic, 3 in my garage and 2 in the shed. And they don't fit into my car at all, i took all to the dump the other day, i have a few good plugs and some fuses but they are mostly junk. The only CRT tv left now is an old grundig which is about 30 years old.

The digital aerial thing is nonsense, my grampa has had the same aerial up for 15 years and putting in an lcd tv it picked up the signal fine, some channels were a bit jerky but now with a £10 booster its ok.

The tv has built in freeview in the caravan it connects via coax cable to the signal booster... If all else fails (and it shouldn't) i'd just set my sky up it's just a bit more of a fiddle than the freeview.

The only problem isee with Crt tvs - is there two heavy,
ive got one in one of the spare rooms, ikeep thinking of taking it to the Dump but,
ipayed over a Grand for it when they where first out, its the only tv ive had that hasnt broke after ayear,

as of moving it it takes two people, carnt lift the fecker its that heavy,,
not good when ineed to Decorate etc,

A good sharp Gentle tap on the top of tvs normaly sorts that problem,

thats what we do up here, sometimes the opertunitist Theif/scroat. actualy must think theyve stolen something that will work,

it saves the hastle of taking it to the tip aspose,

We have a CRT Panasonic in the bedroom connected up to a freeview box and an indoor aerial (we live on a hill). Works a treat. You just need to turn it to AV1 every time.
It has nice clear colours, though obviously it isn't HD.

I also have a Pace onDigital box connected up to the computer room monitor/TV (via RF!).

The NI switchover I think is October. Not sure if the pace box will survive it.

We used to live in a village at the bottom of lough neigh called maghery, the tv signal there was great, you could get decent quality picture with half a coat hanger.
Its a shame this digital switchover needs a proper aerial so many wire coat hangers without a purpose

its hard toget hold of wire coat hangers, there all plastic,

they where good. they had many uses, not like these crappy plastic ones,

as of digital swich over, its not that Bad, atleast you will have a few more extra Boring Tv channels to flick through,

I don't mind loosing analogue tv, its FM radio that would be bad to loose

bought my lad a tv for his bedroom at christmas and his old aeriel wont pick up the new digital signal

old aerial. what do you mean old ? is it inside or outside the house ?

re- my post above. all old aerials will and should pick up a signal through a freeview box,

its a indoor one that worked fine on the old analog but wont work with the new tv with built in freeview.
