406 in the snow?
What are the estates like in the snow? i drove mine with a light dusting the other day but not needed to go out in it today but if it keeps up or just dont rain i'll have to tomorrow... all tyres are good with the two front ones on 7mm same tread i live on a small hill but with it being a dead end it can be a bugger to climb... my old Citroen was the only none 4x4 to get up it last year but i don't know what to expect from this.

Re: 406 in the snow?
Before Christmas I was getting places where others couldnt get
but tonight I struggled in four inches of snow
I think it must be the wrong kind of snow

1997 406 2.0 petrol estate lx..D8.............OH dear where does this nut go?
Re: 406 in the snow?
Just got caught out at a friends house in the sticks, didn't have any overly steep hills to climb so I drove her home basically on tick over in 3rd and 4th gear and had very little wheel spin or sliding.
The extra weight of the estate should help a bit in the snow but I think the XUD saloons handle snow well anyway.
I much prefer a diesel in the snow as you can run her in a high gear without the risk of a sudden engine stall, much more forgiving than a petrol IMO.

My HDi is good, just stick it in first, lift the clutch up and let it pull itself along. Did have a little slip and a slide yesterday in the girlfriends street trying to turn around. But I made it

Re: 406 in the snow?
With proper snow tyres I find the HDi to be really good on the snow, balanced and easily controllable. The front is well directionable and the rear slides a bit, just like I like it!
With summer tyres it's crap, like all cars. Please guys do not go around with summer tyres in the snow, you only risk to crash. In fact I believe it should be prohibited to drive on the snow without winter tyres or at least chains. In many places in Italy you must have winter tyres or chains on board from november to april. On all motorways and in many regions, like mine.

Re: 406 in the snow?
I have a pair Goodyear winter tyres on the front of my hdi estate and it drives in snow fine,i even pulled up in 3-4" of fresh snow to test them and it pulled away from a standstill without even a wheelspin,i can't believe that just changing to winter tyres could make such a difference, they'll stay on untill the weather turns and then it's back to the summer tyres

Re: 406 in the snow?
Next winter I think I'm going to get a set of winter tyres fitted to my 15" nimrods and get some 16" Nimrods or Hoggars for the summer.

You want Hoggars? I got Hoggars.Bailes1992 wrote:Next winter I think I'm going to get a set of winter tyres fitted to my 15" nimrods and get some 16" Nimrods or Hoggars for the summer.
A set of four, with two tyres at about 4mm, one at 5mm and another at 6mm.
If you're interested, let me know.
