Aldi Trolley Jack
I noticed in the latest Aldi special offers booklet they've got a trolley jack for £20.
I don't currently own a trolley jack and my mate will eventually get fed up with me borrowing his but is one from Aldi at that price likely to be up to the job?

Re: Aldi Trolley Jack
The key is to jack it then prop it with stands but I guess you know not to work under a trolley jack
It'd probably be ok for occasional use?

Re: Aldi Trolley Jack
ye indeed. i only ever used it for occasional use . i never have and never will work under a car while on a jack . only time i will ever do that is if all 4 wheels are still on ie changing oil quickly only on scissor jack . and even then i only stretch my arm under my head and body still clear .
if its just for occasional use then your best with a decent 2 ton scissor jack . much less storage space. thats what i have now

Re: Aldi Trolley Jack
ive had a few small trolley jacks,
theyve all ended up in the same place, in the pile ihave for the Scrap lads,
they are a waste of money - dont Rely on The 2 ton Rating, they can collapse when you dont expect it,

Thanks for the responses, tbh I expected a big no to be the answer but worth the ask at that price.

Re: Aldi Trolley Jack
Sorry but just being honest here,
if anyones lookin for a trolley jack Go for the 3Ton -ers,
The 406 is a big heavy motor, jacks like the Aldi/Argos Bargain ones, (Leave them where they are unless youve using them on a Micra size car)
Iuse Sealey stuff now, can pick a decent Sealey Trolley jack up thatl last years, for £50 ish

Here's my experience of cheap & cheerful trolley jacks viewtopic.php?f=5&t=5305&hilit=+crocodile
Basically, 20 quid jack from Aldi? May as well park your car on your head now and get it over with

Halfords Advanced 2.25t 4x4 jack:
http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... ogId=10151
On special offer £44 at the moment. I paid full price (£90) for it a good few years ago and have found it nothing short of excellent. The axle stands which come free with it () are brilliant too, and very sturdy. Again, I paid full price for them (£25) and think they're well worth the money.
This is an *exceptionally* good offer. Go to Halfords NOW!

<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang
Re: Aldi Trolley Jack
sorry but i like my cheap trolly jack
my main jack is a 2.5 ton machine mart job thats ace but is big and heavy and takes up half the boot.
my cheap trollyjack is about 5 years old and has never given me any proplems and i would trust it more than my sissor jack as its more stable, less liable to collapse without warning etc
so if its a case of standard jack or cheap trolly jack the trolly jack wins every time,in fact the only thing i use my sissor jack for is breaking the beads on tyres.
but as other people have said never just use a jack by itself.

Re: Aldi Trolley Jack
I agree with omega , i've had a cheap and cheerful trolley jack for about 12 yrs
and it doesn't leak a drop and it's been used and abused though as with any jack i would
never work under the car only supported by a jack . As regards the aldi jack if you
are only going to give it light use you can't loose , it's guranteed for 3 years so any probs
just take it back , they do honour there gurantee's , i had a two and half year old camera
and they replaced it straight away.

Re: Aldi Trolley Jack
Is aldi the same as lidl, i got a lidl trolley jack, branded ultimate speed, a few months back for £20 and it works but it feels crap, it creaks and struggles with the 406, its lifted my mums clio and the suzuki ok but i use it with axle stands it can't be trusted, it feels too flimsy, given the jack or axle stands are tools that can cause damage if they fail i don't feel happy with a cheap jack.
Its not to say lidl can't do good tools I've had a set of pliers for well over 5 years and they still work, and recently got a soldering station for £10 it has temperature control and a holder, it doesn't feel cheap and there is a 3 year guarantee.

Re: Aldi Trolley Jack
I reckon there are cheap trolley jacks and cheap trolley jacks. My old one from Halfords was pretty cheap as far as I can remember and lasted an amazing amount of time but the one I got from Bauhaus, despite having the statutory year's guarantee, was too cheap. I could have returned it but all they'd have done is replaced it with the same thing and I would never have trusted it. You'd think with these days of suing everyone they'd have to be safe but I'd rather have a round head than a wad of cash any day...

Re: Aldi Trolley Jack
Well seeing as the helfrauds offer ended almost immediatly as i saw it
i thought i'd get one of these earlier http://www.lidl.co.uk/cps/rde/xchg/lidl ... _28546.htm
Lifts the car quite well and seeing as i'll only be lifting one corner at a time before putting it on stands i thought why not... and if all else fails i'll take it back to my neighbour the manager for a refund.
