Bonnet Switch - Battery Disconnection

Hi All,

Battery went flat today and car won't any longer start. I have read the "3 minute rule" about disconnection and also the reconnection rules.

The bit I am struggling with is that cars with alarms (like mine) the BSI does not sleep whilst the bonnet is open. This appears to be true as my bonnet has been up for a day or so and I am sure this is what has finished off my battery!

Being new to Peugeots and newer cars in general I think its funny as fu....dge that the battery has to be disconnected with the bonnet down! But seriously there must be a sensor for this right? Does anyone know where it is so I can put some tape over it or something?

Or is this "3 minute rule" stuff a load of rubbish and I should just whip it off and put the new one on like any other car?

Had a quick look this morning and I cant see any obvious sensors....

Its on a coupe as well if that helps :/

ive always just followed the 3min rule and just took battery off, (Matter of precaution)

ihad a 406 estate, abit back, Headlights wouidnt turn off sometimes
was in a busy town centre one night, lights stayed on, so iopend bonnet took lead off,

when we came back to car put lead back on, imob locked , we ended up going home in a taxi ..so ithink the 3min rule is worth following,

Fair enough. Just hope someone knows where the bonnet switch is because if I dont find it I have no other choice than to risk it

I've never bothered with this rule, and I've lost power plenty of times (flat batteries, intermittently stone cold dead batteries, shorts, disconnections, etc)

I've also had the bonnet open for weeks at a time without any apparent loss of battery charge (the battery in mine only gets disconnected if i need to get underneath it)

I changed my battery the other week, the misses pulled up with new battery in the boot out with the old straigh in with the new and off she went, no problem at all.

Mine wouldn't unlock with the r/c after disconnecting the battery and couldn't be recovered without using PP2000 to get it to 're-learn' the keys, so I would follow the 3-minute rule in future. (Clearly it must be possible to disconnect the battery with the bonnet open, I don't see why leaving it open would prevent it 'going to sleep').

If your battery is not utterly flat, you could use one of those temporary battery jobbies that plugs into the ciagr lighter socket to preserve the memory functions while you change the battery.

Did 3 minute rule. Everything (incl. plips) seem ok! Did come up with immobiliser fault but after turning off ignition, removing key, re-insert and try again it seemed happy...

Not come across that one - how do you know it's the bonnet it 'thinks' is open?

Diagram of the car keeps popping up on the screen that shows the radio station and that... with the bonnet shaded. (normally a door is shaded in if its open, for example). tends to do it more after ive had the bonnet up too

Bonnet open sensor, Will be connected to the bonnet catch,
it shouid have 2 wires going to it,

You will more than likely have to take grille off to get access to it,
