Hi Eric I'll take you up on that offer if you don't mind. it'll be good experience for me.

Yes it was misbehaving at the time. What sort of quantities should be present via the leak off test. Lots or little, I ran the test for 2minutes. I can give better measurements by redoing the test and putting the overflow in to a measuring tube.

I've no EML or fault codes as of today other than the permanent one shown in my earlier posts.

PM me your number & we'll arrange something......

I think the idea is to run the test as long as you can, the more gathered the more acurate the result. Continue until the fullest bottle is 2/3 to 3/4 full. I weighed mine with the kitchen scales, (plus an empty one for comparison).

(But if you do come over, I should be able to tell if it's the same as mine was before I changed my injectors)

That someone would be me. I suspected that maybe an injector was at fault. i've noticed that i can remove power from injector 4 (closest to oil filler cap) and the engine runs as normal (BAD). un-plug no# 3 and the engine stalls. reading up i found this post
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=14490&hilit=injecto ... 1&start=45

OdinEidolon mentioned something similar
... he disconnected the fourth (believed to be faulty) injector electric plug! He's a fool I was thinking, but then surprisingly the engine kept going. What? He plugged it back and disconnected the third. Engine died.

So the car's using only three cylinders when it wobbles. No wonder the engine is noisy and the drive is slow when that happens!
No# 4 on mine also looks in this condition. Mine is rough all the time upto 1.4k revs once warm. can anyone confirm how to get these reconditioned.

pls note i am no machanic, just a fool with a spanner and a love for my poorley car. :(

Sorry I noticed this discussion now only. If the engine is wobbling and unplugging a injector does nothing to it, then there's your problem. That injector nozzle is blocked or the injector coil isn't working (probably the first).

In the end how has this went? I'm en expert now regarding those damn injectors, as Doggy is, so we should be able to help.
To eliminate one cause a t a time try disconnecting the EGR valve vacuum pipe, it'll log up a fault but the EGR will stay closed.
I still have some problems after the cure Doggy made possible with his kindness, we'll see if it is still injector related, as I think, or EGR related, or something else. I just wish I had the time to do some tests.

Well the lumpyness has gone away for now. Back in December while trying to refit the.engine cover I lent on the fuel filter cap snapping one of the fuel line connectors. A trip to the scrappy was urgently needed as I required the car the next day. 3:30 on a Sunday is not the best time to break something. Fortunately the local scrappy had a C5 engine with my fuel filter. Job done, the plus of this all was that it had a fuel filter in better condition than mine. Now I don't know if it was the fuel filter or two tins of redex I'd put in with the previous tank, but I've experienced no lumpyness since. Just this sodding limp home mode light STILL showing.

I put in a can of Green Star Super diesel cleaner (Green star redistributes Wynn's here, so there should be a similar Wynn's product).
They say to put a 500ml can in a 10 liter tank, much more concentrated than redex stuff... also composition is much more complex than Redex, reading from the specs.

Well, it did wonders! The lumpy idle from cold start's still here, but the car is much much more smooth on the rev range and doesn't vibrate anymore after heavy power requests.

Just a quick update on this post. The limp mode was mainly due to a disconnected vacuum hose at the juction with the vac box. I also had the swirl actuator replaced as the rod was broken and finally i replaced the intake and egr ev's. all done for under £40 so very pleased.
