Whistling sound from the front end - somewhere??

Post by gumby6371 »

Wasn't to sure where to put this post so I plumped for general.

I've noticed a whistling sound coming from somewhere on the passenger side. From the drivers seat it sounds like it's coming from passenger side of the engine bay just behind the bulkhead. I've checked the passenger side cabin seals just in case and all looks good.

It's defenitely not mechanical it's wind noise as it only happens above 20/25 mph and only if there is a bit of a breeze. You can hear it at lower speeds if it's really windy.

Being an LX with sunroof there is a fair amount of space where my old car had air con gubbins for air to buffet about, is it just blowing over/around engine components.
The car came with no under tray but I have got one I intend to fit, will this help with air flow in that area?

It's an annoyance rather than a problem as the car runs very well, engine is sweet with plenty of power and no suspension knocks or rattles - (yet)

Any suggestions

I think an under tray is very important to firstly keep the engine bay clean and dry but also to help with aerodynamics.

I wonder if the whistling noise is a badly fitted pollen filter or the splash guards at the base of the screen, or the screen seal itself?

(my under tray left me on a snow-covered drift one morning and without warning, I still miss it to this day, I hope it's ok  )

Already tried turning the blower motor off and it didn't make any difference.
I'll try and make time to fit the under tray at the weekend and see if that makes a difference.
