I bought a trolley jack kit from Halfrauds while a sale was on , much better than a scissor and this has axle stands with it , so all the bits are there and i use a wedge under the wheels too.

Do you actually put axle stands under the axles? I always put them under the jacking points.

I always wondered if the rear tube was strong enough to put the stands under ?

A word of warning about cheap trolly jacks - the other day I was about to get the wife's estate up on axle stands to bleed the brakes, so I started off as normal: Jack the driver side front with a cheap jack, then shove the decent (Halfords 2.25t) jack under the subframe to lift the front. While I was maneuvering the decent jack into position, I noticed the bumper dropping down towards my head very quickly.

Got up, looked round the side and found a large puddle under the cheap jack. It's dead. Thankfully I'm not. Quick trip to Halfords to get another 2.25t jobbie (on sale - bonus!), and I could lift the car up off the other jack... Now I have two 50cm lift jacks on the job, lifting a car from the subframe is SO much easier 8)
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang
