Arghhhhhh bloody Engine Management
Just driven to work in safe mode.
Not sure why. Car was ok last thursday when I drove it. Just started up in safe mode, limiting me to 2500 with the old engine light on.
Checked under the car and bonnet to see if any levels low, splits or leaks or sensors unplugged, and tried a soft reset on the ECU but no luck.
Any suggestions? or costs to how much Im going to get raped from Peugeot for a diagnostic?
I leave work at 4pm, so any help before then would be appreciated.

Difficult to say what it could be, but a Peugeot Diagnostic will be around £65.00 ish.
I had this recently and first it was the radiator cooling fan drawing too much current (went into limp then recovered).
Then next it was the Throttle Position Sensor (limp, then OK).
Both resulted in resetting the codes, once the Cooling Fan was replaced.
I used an Independant who I know very well who probably did more than usual to get me sorted.
Other problems can include Glow Plug Circuit & Low Fuel Pressure for example.

I have a feeling it may have something to do with the preheat/glow plug circuit as I just went outside to have another look, and the pre heat coil symbol does not come up at all. Maybe the engine is still hot after 2 hours sitting in the cold? but I thought it should flash on regardless.
Got it booked in at a local garage for a diagnostic.
Costing me £45+VAT to have it done, and been told if it is just a sensor, then they will fit it for free and just charge for the part. If it needs more work, then I will have to pay for it.
Peugeot actually want less. They only want £40+VAT, but will charge for labour and parts on what needs doing.
So taking a risk, and going with the local. cos they can do me at 430 today, and peugeot cant until thursday.

Bah 3 problems to sort.
Fuel pressure is coming as low, but when they checked it on the computer they said it seemed fine.?!? does anyone know what the fuel pressure should be about? it was about 391, but Im not sure what the unit is.
Supplimentary Heater and supplimentary heater on idle were the other 2 problems.
So car is going back into morrow so they can take a better look.
Doh

My fuel pressure at idle was 298 BAR, when revved upto 3000 RPM it rose to 450 BAR.
I had:
P1403 Additional Pre-Heater circuit fault (this we found is nothing to do with my model)
P1404 Additional Heater circuit fault (this we found is nothing to do with my model)
We could not identify these any further, the ECU was reset and no Check Light since.
The ECU is really crap at identifying faults, it sort of 'hints' at you.
When my Radiator Fan was worn out and drawing too much current on it's circuit fuse the following were reported by the ECU:
P1404 - ECU fault / Glow Plug Control Module/Relay
P1403 - Engine Coolant Heater (radiator fan !) Wiring fault/Fan Relay/ECU fault
P1408 - Engine Coolant Heater (rad fan) Control - Wiring/ECU fault/Battery
So, it's not allways exactly what you think it is, and hopefully something very simple.

when they first put it on the machine it came up with 5. They reset the ECU and it kept coming up with the same 3 after that. Hopefully I dont get a phonecall today saying its going to cost an arm and a leg...........
They are looking at the fuel pressure sensor. sensor first, then working from there.
The idle fuel pressure was about 391 and when they reved it as high as it would go, it went up to about 440ish. so they reckon its nothing much with the fuel system.....hopefully. And they reckon the other fault will not cause the engine light to come on, as it is an accesory rather than something that is desperately needed.
